President El-Sisi Receives Queen of Denmark

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received today Queen Mary of the Kingdom of Denmark, in the presence of Dr. Badr Abdel Aaty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs. On the Danish side, the meeting was attended by Lars Løkke Rasmussen, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Lars Bomøller, Denmark’s Ambassador to Cairo.

The Spokesman for the Presidency stated that President El-Sisi welcomed Queen Mary, expressing his appreciation for her participation in the Grand Egyptian Museum’s inauguration ceremony, which reflects the depth and distinction of the historical relations between Egypt and Denmark.

For her part, Queen Mary conveyed the greetings of the King of Denmark to President El-Sisi, expressing her great appreciation for her visit to Egypt and her participation in this prominent cultural event. She also praised the richness of Egyptian civilization and commended the Grand Egyptian Museum as an exceptional addition to world heritage.

Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, the Presidential Spokesman, added that the discussions focused on ways to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries, particularly in light of President El-Sisi’s state visit to Denmark in December 2024. That visit elevated relations to a strategic partnership, with both sides emphasizing the importance of building upon its outcomes to expand cooperation—especially in the economic, trade, and investment sectors—in pursuit of the shared aspirations of both peoples for development and prosperity.

The meeting also addressed a number of regional issues of mutual concern. Queen Mary expressed her appreciation for Egypt’s leadership role in reaching a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip and praised Egypt’s initiative to host a conference for the reconstruction of Gaza later this November. As Denmark currently holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Queen affirmed her country’s pride in the distinguished level of relations between Egypt and the EU. She also underscored the vital role of Danish companies operating in Egypt and Denmark’s desire to increase its investments in the Egyptian market.

The Spokesman further noted that discussions also covered the situation in Sudan, where both sides stressed the need to intensify efforts to end the ongoing conflict and curb the crimes committed in its context. They affirmed the necessity of facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid as a prelude to reaching a comprehensive political settlement that ensures stability in brotherly Sudan.
