Vice Minister of Housing Reviews Water Supply Project for New Administrative Capital
Dr. Sayed Ismail, Vice Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, led a comprehensive meeting to review the progress of the permanent water supply project for the New Administrative Capital, which involves sourcing water from the Nile River. The meeting was attended by Dr. Osama Hamdy, the Ministry’s Advisor for Follow-up, Projects, and Utilities; Eng. Ashraf Fathy, Assistant Vice President of the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) and Supervisor of the Authority’s Utilities; Eng. Ahmed Mohamed Abdel-Razek, Head of the New Administrative Capital Authority; as well as representatives from the Ministry’s Project Management Unit (PMU), NUCA, and the New Administrative Capital Authority.
Monitoring Drinking Water Projects
This meeting was held in response to directives from Minister Sherif El-Sherbini to oversee ongoing drinking water and wastewater projects in new cities to ensure timely completion and maximize the benefits of these investments.
During the meeting, Dr. Ismail and the attendees discussed the execution status of the project components, including the implementation of raw water intake works, Pumping Station No. 1 with a capacity of 1.5 million cubic meters per day, three discharge lines with a diameter of 2200 mm totaling 144 kilometers, three additional pumping stations, and a reservoir pumping station with a capacity of 800,000 cubic meters per day. They also reviewed the progress of the first phase of the treatment plant with a capacity of 400,000 cubic meters per day, and addressed challenges facing the project.
Coordination Among Relevant Ministries
Dr. Ismail highlighted the ongoing coordination among various stakeholders, including the ministry, construction sector, NUCA, the New Administrative Capital Authority, the New Administrative Capital Company, and the contracting firms executing the project. Regular coordination meetings are held to discuss obstacles, develop plans, and propose technical and contractual solutions to overcome challenges, ensuring adherence to agreed-upon timelines.
At the end of the meeting, Dr. Ismail emphasized the need for all involved parties to fulfill their responsibilities, complete necessary coordination with other relevant ministries, and accelerate project execution.
