Amid the mediation efforts recently led by Egypt to push forward a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi emphasized the necessity for this agreement to gain international legitimacy through the United Nations Security Council.
During a phone call with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, President El-Sisi highlighted the importance of deploying international forces in Gaza, according to statements made by Egyptian Presidential Spokesperson Mohamed El-Shennawy. He also stressed the need to release prisoners and detainees, ensure the safe entry of humanitarian aid into the Strip, and begin reconstruction efforts.
The Egyptian President invited his Cypriot counterpart to attend the ceremony that will be held in Egypt to mark the signing of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.

In the context of work within the Security Council, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot stated in a special briefing that an international mandate must be granted for the agreement and that international forces should take part in ensuring its implementation. He added that daily security tasks in the Gaza Strip will be carried out by a Palestinian police force trained in Egypt, Jordan, and Canada, with the need to support this force internationally to guarantee stability and security.
He further clarified that several countries have expressed readiness to participate in this international force, stressing the importance of obtaining a mandate from the United Nations to ensure proper execution. He confirmed that consultations are currently underway in New York to issue a Security Council resolution defining the framework for the international forces.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres also emphasized the importance of providing an international framework for the Gaza agreement through the Security Council.
A ceremony is expected to be held in Cairo next Tuesday to celebrate the activation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, with the attendance of U.S. President Donald Trump and a number of Western and Arab leaders.
These developments come after intensive efforts led by the United States, Qatar, and Egypt, with the participation of Turkey, aimed at pushing both Israel and Hamas to agree to the ceasefire plan previously announced by U.S. President Donald Trump.
