The head of the Urban Development Fund, Eng. Khaled Siddiq, confirmed that the development of Historic Cairo goes beyond improving building façades and aims to revive the spirit of the Khedivial and Islamic city.

During a session at Cityscape Egypt 2025, he explained that the fund restores buildings to their original state in line with the historical character of each area, such as Al-Muizz Street, which demonstrates the project’s success in combining heritage preservation with offering visitors a modern experience.

He pointed to a plan encouraging the transformation of houses into tourist units that provide an authentic experience reflecting the spirit of Old Cairo, inspired by international models such as Seville, where historic districts attract visitors.

He added that billions of pounds have been invested to restore many areas to their former glory, stating that the goal is to create a vibrant urban environment that strengthens cultural belonging and reestablishes Cairo as a hub for both domestic and international tourism.
