Citizens are eagerly awaiting the announcement from the Ministry of Housing and the Social Housing Fund regarding the opening date for applications to rent apartments in 2024. In March, the ministry is expected to release around 1,000 rental units across three different locations. This initiative is part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to provide suitable housing options for all citizens, including low-income families and young people preparing for marriage through the well-known “Housing for All Egyptians” program.
Launch Date for 2024 Rental Housing Units
According to a ministry source, the rental housing units are expected to be available before the end of March or at the start of the second quarter of the year.
Conditions for Renting Social Housing Units
Applicants interested in renting these units must meet several requirements to ensure the program benefits the intended target groups:
- Minimum monthly income for a single applicant must be EGP 2,500, with a maximum of EGP 6,000 for singles and EGP 8,000 for families.
- Priority is given to married couples with children, followed by married couples without children, and finally single individuals.
- The units must be used as the primary residence and not for other purposes.
- The tenant must occupy the unit as their primary residence throughout the rental period.
- Applicants who have previously received similar housing support or own property are ineligible.
- Eligible applicants may also qualify for future ownership programs for low-income families, such as the “Housing for All Egyptians” initiative.
Financial Support and Rental Terms
- For units measuring 75 square meters, financial assistance of up to EGP 60,000 is available, disbursed monthly. This support applies to applicants with a monthly income between EGP 2,500 and EGP 4,600.
- For larger units (up to 90 square meters), financial assistance of up to EGP 90,000 is provided monthly, targeting applicants with an income between EGP 2,500 and EGP 5,900.
Required Documents for Application
To apply for rental units under the Social Housing Program for 2024, the following documents are necessary:
- Copy of the national ID card and children’s birth certificates (if applicable).
- Copy of the marriage certificate.
- Receipt of the down payment for the unit.
- Receipt of registration fees.
