Developing the Water System
The station was inaugurated during the Prime Minister’s tour of Gharbia Governorate, as part of the state’s efforts to develop infrastructure and improve the level of services provided to citizens in villages targeted by the presidential initiative.
Dr. Mostafa Madbouly affirmed that the development projects being implemented in “Hayah Karima” villages reflect the state’s approach to achieving balanced development and improving the efficiency of basic services. He stressed the importance of providing safe, high-quality drinking water, given its direct connection to citizens’ health and quality of life.
Greater Production Capacity
Eng. Mohamed Abdel Fattah, Chairman of the Gharbia Water and Wastewater Company, explained that the station was built on an area of 1,856 square meters and currently has a design capacity of 12,000 cubic meters per day, providing safe drinking water to residents of Sandbast Village and its affiliated hamlets: Mansour, Ghattas, Al-Barbary, Al-Shabian, Bakr, and Al-Gahoush.
He noted that the development works included increasing the number of wells from one to three, in addition to establishing an iron and manganese removal treatment plant with a design capacity of 7,776 cubic meters per day, ensuring improved water quality and compliance with standard specifications.
Network Expansion
The development works also included rehabilitating the station’s 100-cubic-meter elevated water tank, upgrading the administrative building and the general site, constructing a new perimeter wall, and implementing 25 kilometers of water networks.
This brings the total length of water networks serving the area to around 65 kilometers, while a backup electric generator was also provided to ensure operational continuity and prevent service disruptions during emergency power outages.
Supporting Gharbia Villages
Eng. Randa El-Menshawy, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, affirmed the continued implementation and development of drinking water projects across the governorates, particularly in areas targeted by “Hayah Karima,” with the aim of improving infrastructure efficiency and enhancing the quality and sustainability of services provided to citizens.
For his part, Major General Alaa Abdel Moaty, Governor of Gharbia, explained that the Sandbast Water Station represents an important addition to the governorate’s drinking water system, contributing to increased water production and meeting the current and future needs of residents in the area.
