During his tour of Alexandria Governorate today, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, prime minister, accompanied by officials, inaugurated the Field Marshal Suleiman Ezzat Bridge, which connects 45 Street with the International Coastal Road.
Following the unveiling ceremony marking the official opening, Engineer Randa El-Menshawy, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, stated that the Field Marshal Suleiman Ezzat Bridge serves as a new traffic artery extending from the heart of Alexandria to the International Coastal Road, contributing to effective solutions for easing traffic congestion in the eastern part of the city.
The minister explained that the project is one of the largest strategic infrastructure developments aimed at enhancing road efficiency and improving traffic flow. She added that the bridge features a fully integrated, multi-level traffic system designed to scientifically distribute traffic volumes and ensure smooth movement from the Corniche Road to the International Coastal Road.
Traffic within the project is organized through three main routes: an upper-level route designated for vehicles traveling from Mostafa Kamel Street toward 45 Street; another elevated route connecting 45 Street to the International Coastal Road through the bridge’s lower level; and dedicated lanes serving traffic arriving from the International Coastal Road and the Maamoura area, ensuring uninterrupted traffic movement without intersections.
Meanwhile, Engineer Ayman Attia, Governor of Alexandria, noted that the Field Marshal Suleiman Ezzat Bridge represents a major addition to the governorate’s road and transportation network. He explained that Alexandria is implementing an integrated package of traffic projects aimed at reducing congestion by between 15% and 25% in key areas.
He added that the bridge project marks a significant transformation in the governorate’s road network and that efforts are underway to maximize the use of the spaces beneath the bridge in a manner that serves the public interest without affecting traffic flow. Necessary measures will also be taken to prevent informal parking areas in the surrounding vicinity, preserving the area’s urban appearance and ensuring the long-term efficiency of the project.
In this context, the Prime Minister directed that these vacant spaces be utilized as quickly as possible by establishing a number of sports facilities, including five-a-side football pitches and tennis courts, in coordination with the Ministry of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities.
Major General Osama El-Genzoury, Head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction, explained that the project aims to accommodate increasing traffic volumes in both directions, reduce travel times between the Agricultural Road and the International Coastal Road, and improve connectivity between southern, eastern, and western Alexandria.
The project also seeks to maximize the benefits of the Sadat Tunnel and Sadat vehicle and pedestrian bridges at the intersection of Mohamed Anwar El Sadat Street. Meanwhile, Major General Essam El-Gharably, head of the Central North Coast Reconstruction Authority, affiliated with the Central Agency for Reconstruction under the Ministry of Housing, stated that the bridge has a total length of 2.6 kilometers and an average width of 11 meters, featuring three traffic lanes in each direction.
The project was implemented by the Central Agency for Reconstruction and is primarily intended to prepare Alexandria to accommodate the continuous increase in vehicle numbers while easing traffic burdens on residents in the Sidi Bishr and 45 Street areas.
He added that the project aligns with Egypt Vision 2030, which aims to transform major cities into advanced logistics and tourism hubs supported by modern road networks linking residential areas with the country’s major national corridors.
