Prime Minister Follows Up on the Development Progress of the New Urban Community in Warraq Island

Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly discussed, during a meeting, the latest developments in the project to develop the new urban community on Warraq Island. The meeting was attended by several officials, most notably Engineer Sherif El-Sharbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, Major General Ahmed Reda, Director of the Military Survey Department, and Engineer Osama Shawky, Head of the New Warraq City Development Authority, along with representatives from the concerned entities.

The Prime Minister clarified that the aim of the meeting was to monitor the progress of development plans that seek to establish a modern urban community on Warraq Island. The meeting also touched on the latest updates regarding the disbursement of financial and in-kind compensations for eligible residents, emphasizing the necessity of accelerating these procedures.

In this context, Madbouly stressed the importance of expediting the disbursement of financial compensations and simplifying procedures related to alternative housing options, whether in the form of residential or agricultural units and lands, to ensure the swift fulfillment of residents’ needs.

Prime Minister Follows Up on the Development Progress of the New Urban Community in Warraq Island

For his part, the Minister of Housing presented a report on the implementation of alternative housing units for residents who chose to benefit from these options. The report indicated that 94 residential towers, comprising 4,092 housing units, are currently under construction. Construction has been completed for 50 towers, totaling 2,184 units, with the remaining work in progress. The project will also include various services such as a primary and secondary school, an integrated service center, a youth center, a nursery, and a healthcare unit.

The meeting also addressed updates on infrastructure development on Warraq Island, including electricity, telecommunications networks, and the smart grid system. The Minister pointed out that the launch of the electrical power supply is scheduled for March 27, 2025, as part of the urgent phase. He also referred to progress in the implementation of the water station, which will provide 65,000 cubic meters per day, with the first phase starting at a capacity of 25,000 cubic meters per day. The discussions included advancements in extending natural gas networks to meet the island’s current and future needs.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Prime Minister instructed the immediate preparation of the required designs to implement a tourist promenade along the Nile Corniche within the new urban community on the island, making it an open destination that blends distinctive urban planning with natural tranquility. He also emphasized the need to establish a central park to serve both residents and visitors and stressed the importance of promptly handing over the ready alternative housing units to eligible residents, noting that more than 2,000 units are currently ready for delivery.
