Prime Minister Follows Up on Key Housing and Infrastructure Projects
Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister of Egypt, held a meeting on Tuesday with Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, to review several projects being undertaken by the ministry. The meeting was attended by Dr. Abdel Khaleq Ibrahim, Assistant Minister for Technical Affairs.
At the start of the meeting, Minister El-Sherbiny presented proposals for development projects around the Giza Plateau and the Grand Egyptian Museum. This is part of ongoing efforts to prepare for the grand opening of the museum, an event of global significance. The discussion emphasized the need for rapid progress on the development of these areas, aiming to enhance their historical and cultural value.
The Minister then addressed efforts to tackle pollution at a drainage canal near New Mansoura City. He noted that a company has been tasked with building a sewage treatment plant at Qalabshu Canal, providing a quick solution to eliminate pollution at the site.
El-Sherbiny also reviewed the outcomes of regular meetings with real estate marketing companies to monitor the progress of marketing plans for residential units being built by the New Urban Communities Authority. He highlighted the importance of ensuring timely and clear actions to market these units effectively, which will help maximize financial returns.
Additionally, the Minister discussed plans to address recurring water shortages in New Cairo. The solution involves expanding the city’s water supply infrastructure by adding a second phase to the water pumps and treatment plant, which will increase capacity by 500,000 cubic meters per day. The new system will connect to the main water pipeline from Maadi to the New Cairo treatment plant. This work will necessitate a water outage from 7 PM on Saturday, September 14, 2024, until 7 PM on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, in certain areas of New Cairo.
Prime Minister Madbouly instructed the ministry to inform residents in the affected areas about the water outages through various channels, including social media, and to ensure the availability of water trucks to meet residents’ needs during this period. The Minister confirmed that the necessary announcements had already been made, and water trucks and contact numbers for assistance were provided.
