Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, held a meeting today at the government headquarters in New Alamein City to follow up on the implementation status of drinking water and wastewater projects.
The meeting was attended by Eng. Randa El-Menshawy, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities; Eng. Ahmed Omran, Deputy Minister of Housing for Utilities; Eng. Khaled Seddiq, Assistant Minister of Housing; Eng. Mohamed Hassan Mostafa, CEO of the Regulatory Agency for Drinking Water and Wastewater Utilities; Eng. Mostafa El-Shimy, Chairman of the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater; and Eng. Mostafa Kamel, Assistant Deputy Minister of Housing for Utilities.
At the outset of the meeting, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly affirmed that the state continues to implement its plan to develop the drinking water and wastewater sector, as it is one of the vital sectors directly linked to improving citizens’ quality of life. He stressed the importance of continuously monitoring implementation rates across various projects to ensure their timely completion according to the specified schedules while adhering to the highest standards of quality and efficiency.
During the meeting, Eng. Randa El-Menshawy, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, reviewed the implementation status of drinking water and wastewater projects, as well as performance indicators and completion rates for ongoing projects across the country’s governorates. She also highlighted the status of completed projects, which contribute to increasing coverage rates and improving the quality of drinking water and wastewater services provided to citizens.
Eng. Randa El-Menshawy also outlined performance indicators and the implementation status of operation and maintenance works at drinking water and wastewater treatment plants and networks, including the implementation rates of periodic and preventive maintenance programs for plants.
She highlighted the ministry’s efforts to improve the efficiency of the operation system and mechanisms for dealing with malfunctions, with the aim of ensuring the sustainable provision of services at the required level of efficiency, preserving assets, and maximizing the return on the investments made by the state in this sector.
The Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities also discussed the implementation status of drinking water and wastewater projects under the presidential “Hayah Karima” (Decent Life) initiative. She reviewed indicators for the handover and operation of completed projects, the implementation status of ongoing projects, and the measures taken to provide the technical requirements and human resources needed to ensure sustainable operation.
This contributes to maximizing the benefits of these projects and improving the level of services provided to citizens in the targeted villages. During the meeting, the minister of housing also reviewed the ministry’s efforts to rationalize drinking water consumption and reduce water losses.
She presented the implementation status of programs to improve the efficiency of distribution networks and expand the application of modern technological solutions, particularly smart meters and early leak detection technologies, alongside awareness campaigns aimed at promoting a culture of rational water use. These efforts are part of the state’s strategy for the sustainable management of water resources and maximizing the efficiency of their use.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the prime minister stressed the need for continued periodic monitoring of performance indicators and the implementation status of drinking water and wastewater projects while enhancing coordination among all relevant authorities. This will ensure the rapid completion of ongoing projects, achieve the highest levels of operational efficiency, and ensure the sustainable provision of services to citizens across the country.
