Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister of Egypt, attended the inauguration of the International Academy of Architecture and Urbanism (IAAU) in the New Administrative Capital. The event marked a significant milestone that reflects constructive cooperation between Egypt, UNESCO, and several renowned international universities and institutions.
The ceremony was attended by the Ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Planning and Economic Development, and the Governor of Cairo, alongside Stefania Giannini, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Education, as well as the French and Italian ambassadors to Egypt. Also present were a distinguished group of university presidents and heads of local and international research centers.
Upon the Prime Minister’s arrival, he was received by Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Dr. Omar El-Husseiny, Chairman of the Preparatory Committee of the Academy.

During the event, the Minister of Higher Education emphasized that the establishment of the Academy is one of the outcomes of the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research announced in March 2023. This strategy focuses on strengthening international alignment and linking educational outcomes with global standards.
The Minister highlighted that the International Academy of Architecture and Urbanism will serve as a vital hub for research, training, and education in the fields of architecture and urban planning. The Academy has set ambitious objectives, including:
-
Preparing specialized professionals in architecture and urban planning according to the latest international standards.
-
Offering training programs and specialized courses with internationally accredited certifications to qualify sector professionals.
-
Enhancing workforce skills and strengthening connections between Egyptian educational institutions and their international partners.
He further explained that the Academy will provide joint degree programs in collaboration with leading institutions such as the International School of Architecture in Grenoble, France, the Faculty of Architecture at Sapienza University of Rome, Italy, and the Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies at Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
The Minister added that the Academy’s mission is not limited to graduating a new generation of architects and urban planners, but also extends to supporting the continuous professional development of current practitioners. This reinforces Egypt’s position as a leading regional and international hub in architecture and urban planning.
