Ministry of Housing: Completion of a Desalination Plant in Matrouh

Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, announced that the newly completed seawater desalination plant in Matrouh Governorate has reached a capacity of 205,000 cubic meters per day. In addition, two new plants are currently under construction with a combined production capacity of 70,000 cubic meters per day, bringing the total desalination capacity in the governorate to 275,000 cubic meters per day. This expansion aims to meet the growing demand for drinking water among residents.

The minister’s statements came during his inspection of the drinking water system in Matrouh, where he emphasized the ministry’s ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure and implement its national strategy for seawater desalination, with a particular focus on coastal cities and areas. El-Sherbiny pointed out that the projects under construction include the East Matrouh Desalination Plant (Al-Ramila 4) and another plant in the city of Sallum.
