Minister of Housing Reviews Winter Preparations in West Cairo New Cities

Eng. Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, held a meeting today at the headquarters of the 6th of October City Authority to review the preparations of the new cities in West Cairo (6th of October, Sheikh Zayed, New October, and October Gardens) for the upcoming winter season and the management of rainwater. The meeting was attended by Dr. Sayed Ismail, Deputy Minister, Eng. Amin Ghoneim, Vice President of the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) for Development and City Affairs, Dr. Hassan El-Shorbagy, Vice President for Real Estate and Commercial Affairs, and several officials from the respective cities.

During the meeting, the Minister was briefed on the measures taken to manage rainwater for the upcoming winter. City officials outlined their efforts in three main areas: improving the efficiency of the rainwater drainage systems, enhancing crisis and emergency management protocols, and deploying rapid intervention units. El-Sherbiny emphasized the importance of adopting innovative solutions, such as groundwater recharge wells, to handle rainwater, and ensuring the readiness of equipment and teams around the clock. He also stressed the need for cooperation among city authorities to swiftly address high-risk areas.

The Minister also reviewed the progress of ongoing projects in the West Cairo cities and the implementation status of directives issued during his previous visit. He called for a comprehensive financial plan for revenues and expenses extending to 2030, focusing on maximizing sustainable financial returns and optimizing the use of equipment and assets across the new cities.
