As part of the state’s ongoing efforts to support an integrated waste management system in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030 for sustainable development, and following the directives of Eng. Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) has launched and implemented a project for the treatment and safe disposal of solid municipal waste generated by cities in the West Cairo sector, including 6th of October, New 6th of October, October Gardens, and Sheikh Zayed.
The Minister reviewed a detailed report on the progress of the project, which is being established in New 6th of October City on a total area of 70 feddans. Of this, 40 feddans are allocated for a sanitary landfill, while the remaining 30 feddans are designated for a waste treatment and recycling plant aimed at producing alternative fuels (RDF).

The project’s main objective is to minimize the amount of waste disposed of through landfilling to the lowest possible level — with only around 20% of the total waste from the West Cairo sector being buried.
As part of the field follow-up, Eng. Iman Nabil, First Assistant to the Minister for Development and Construction Affairs, and Eng. Mohamed Abdel Maqsoud, Head of the New 6th of October City Authority, accompanied by representatives of the NUCA, inspected the project site to review the stages of implementation and assess the progress achieved on the ground.
