Engineer Randa El Menshawy, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, reviewed the implementation status of several projects under the Presidential “Decent Life” Initiative being carried out by the National Organization for Potable Water and Sanitary Drainage (NOPWASD), as well as projects included in the organization’s investment plan in the governorates of Port Said, Sohag, Minya, and Assiut.
The Minister of Housing emphasized that the ministry places drinking water and wastewater projects at the top of its priorities, particularly those implemented under the Presidential “Decent Life” Initiative, given their significant role in improving the quality of services provided to citizens in rural Egypt.
She stressed the importance of accelerating implementation, fully complying with technical specifications and project timelines, and ensuring that all projects are completed in accordance with the highest standards of quality and efficiency.
The minister received a report on the results of field inspections conducted by officials from the National Organization for Potable Water and Sanitary Drainage on a number of projects. According to the report, in Port Said Governorate, Engineer Essam Abdel Hamid, Head of the Central Department for East Delta Coastal Projects Implementation, inspected the West Port Said Desalination Plant project.
He also followed up on the Port Fouad Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion, the El Deiba Village Sewerage Project, and the El Dawahy Pumping Station, in the presence of Engineer Asmaa Nasr Shokry, Head of the Executive Agency for Drinking Water and Wastewater Projects in Port Said. During the visit, emphasis was placed on swiftly resolving implementation obstacles and ensuring full compliance with technical standards.
In Sohag Governorate, Engineer Ashraf El Sayed, Head of the Central Training Department and Head of the Executive Unit for the 240 Villages Deprived of Drinking Water Project at the organization, conducted a field tour to inspect drinking water plants, accompanied by Engineer Ahmed Hassan, Head of the Executive Agency in Sohag.
The tour included inspections of the North Sohag water plants, including Sheikh Zein El Din, Om Douma, Al Zahraa, Banja, Anibes, and Ali Ibn Abi Talib, in addition to the South Sohag plants, including the Hargah Qebly Water Plant.
The inspection confirmed that trial operations are continuing at Al Zahraa Water Plant, with three consecutive water quality samples successfully obtained in preparation for initial handover and entry into actual service. Contractors were also instructed to increase manpower and accelerate implementation rates at the remaining stations.
In Minya Governorate, Engineer Nageh Abdel Rahman, Deputy Head of the Central Department for North Upper Egypt Projects Implementation (Minya–Assiut), followed up on the progress of projects under the Presidential “Decent Life” Initiative, in the presence of Engineer Manal Hussein, Head of the Executive Agency for Drinking Water and Wastewater Projects in Minya.
The inspection included the Deir Al Barsha Wastewater Treatment Plant, with a capacity of 15,000/20,000 cubic meters per day, serving the villages of Deir Al Barsha, Deir Abu Hinnis, and Sheikh Ebada; the Deir Abu Hinnis Pumping Station; the Sheikh Shabika Wastewater Treatment Plant, with a capacity of 40,000/70,000 cubic meters per day, serving 21 villages in Mallawi District; as well as the Delga Wastewater Treatment Plant, with a capacity of 15,000 cubic meters per day, serving the villages of Delga and Zaeira in Deir Mawas District.
The follow-up in Assiut Governorate also included inspections of several projects under the Presidential “Decent Life” Initiative, in the presence of Engineer Saber Abdel Raouf Ahmed, Head of the Executive Agency in Assiut.
The tour covered the El Sawalem El Bahariya Pumping Station, the El Attiyat El Bahariya Pumping Station in Abnoub District, the El Attiyat El Bahariya Wastewater Treatment Plant, with a capacity of 40,000/60,000 cubic meters per day, serving 14 villages in Abnoub District, in addition to the West El Maabda Sub-Pumping Station.
The inspection tour in Assiut continued with a visit to the Awaga Wastewater Treatment Plant in Dairut District, with a capacity of 40,000/80,000 cubic meters per day, serving 14 villages, as well as the two booster pumping stations (Booster 1 and Booster 2) in Awaga Village, Booster 1 and Booster 2 in Beni Adi, located in Manfalut District, and Booster 1 and Booster 2 in El Suhreig.
In conclusion, Engineer Randa El Menshawy stressed the importance of maintaining continuous field monitoring of all projects and removing any obstacles that may affect implementation rates, ensuring that projects are completed according to the approved schedules and enter operational service to maximize benefits for citizens.
