Engineer Randa El Menshawy, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, convened a meeting to assess the progress of several projects being executed by the Central Agency for Reconstruction in Alexandria Governorate. The session was attended by Major General Osama El Ganzouri, Head of the Agency, along with a number of ministry officials.
During the meeting, the Minister highlighted the significance of the projects undertaken by the Central Agency for Reconstruction, particularly road and corridor developments in Alexandria Governorate.
She noted their vital role in easing congestion on existing traffic routes, enhancing traffic flow, and connecting the city with new urban expansions to the east and west, which in turn supports faster urban growth.
Discussions also covered the advancement of the Major General Omar Suleiman Axis (the “Western Ring Arc of Alexandria Governorate”), which links the Cairo–Alexandria Desert Road with Borg El Arab International Airport, Borg El Arab City, and the northwestern coast.
The corridor stretches approximately 20 km, featuring six traffic lanes in each direction, in addition to a central median. It begins at kilometer 40 on the Alexandria/Cairo Desert Road, passes through Borg El Arab International Airport and the Borg El Arab industrial zone, and extends to the International Coastal Road.
The project is designed to redirect all types of traffic to and from Borg El Arab International Airport, the North Coast, and key development zones—industrial, logistics, and agricultural—within Borg El Arab City and its surrounding areas directly onto the desert road, and from there to the regional road network across the country. To accelerate implementation, the project has been divided into three sectors that are being carried out simultaneously.
The Minister further reviewed the status of the Field Marshal Suleiman Ezzat Bridge project (Sadat Axis 45) at its intersection with the International Coastal Road. The project involves constructing a two-level bridge linking Sadat Street (45) with the International Coastal Road at its junction with Mostafa Kamel Street, as part of the broader East Alexandria development plan.
Sadat Street is one of Alexandria’s primary traffic corridors, connecting the city to both the International Coastal Road and the agricultural road at its intersection with Mostafa Kamel Street and the Mahmoudia Axis. It also serves as a key gateway to East Alexandria and the Corniche Road. The bridge extends approximately 2.6 km and includes three traffic lanes in each direction on both levels.
The lower level provides a connection from Sadat Street to the International Coastal Road, while the upper level links the International Coastal Road back to Sadat Street, with an extension toward Clock Square. This development is expected to handle increasing traffic volumes and reduce travel time between the agricultural road and the International Coastal Road across southern, eastern, and western Alexandria.
It will also enhance the efficiency of the Sadat tunnels and bridges for both vehicles and pedestrians at the intersection of Mohamed Anwar El Sadat Street with the Corniche Road.
Engineer Randa El Menshawy also followed up on the progress of the first phase of the Mohamed Naguib Axis development project. This phase includes constructing a bridge above Gamal Abdel Nasser Road and connecting the existing tunnels in the southern Abu Qir area.
The project aims to establish a transverse traffic corridor linking major longitudinal routes, including the Corniche Road, Gamal Abdel Nasser Street, Mostafa Kamel Street, Mahmoudia Axis, the Cairo–Alexandria Agricultural Road, the Ring Road, the Cairo–Alexandria Desert Road, and the International Coastal Road. It also involves the development of an interchange at Canal El Suez Street to connect the Corniche east of Alexandria.
At the end of the meeting, the Minister emphasized the importance of strict adherence to the scheduled timelines for completing all projects. She also stressed the need for ongoing coordination with relevant authorities to address any challenges that may arise during execution, while ensuring continuous work around the clock to deliver the projects in line with the highest quality standards.
