On Sunday evening, Engineer Sherif El-Shorbagy, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, convened a meeting to monitor ongoing developments in West Cairo’s new cities, including 6th of October, Sheikh Zayed, New October, and October Gardens. The meeting was attended by officials from the Ministry, the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA), and representatives of these cities’ administrative bodies.

The Minister emphasized the importance of prioritizing cleanliness, lighting, and maintenance of green spaces. He called for enhanced waste removal efforts, increased campaigns to eliminate violations, encroachments, and unregulated activities, and collaboration with relevant authorities to preserve the cities’ urban appeal and visual identity. Additionally, he directed the implementation of regular maintenance for infrastructure and road networks to ensure that these cities are always presented in their best form.
Standards for Service Providers
Minister El-Shorbagy instructed officials to establish clear criteria for selecting top-performing companies to handle operations, maintenance, and cleaning services. He also emphasized the need for regular evaluation of these companies’ performance based on predefined standards. Tasks should be distributed among reliable companies to ensure a tangible improvement in the quality of services that directly impact residents’ lives.
Strengthened Oversight
The Minister tasked NUCA officials and city administrative teams with conducting regular on-site inspections to oversee progress in developmental projects and ensure the effective management of public services. He also stressed the importance of taking firm action against violations, encroachments, and other disruptive activities to maintain order and enhance the living environment in these cities.
