The Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, held a meeting to review the work progress at the Eastern Treatment Plant for wastewater treatment in Alexandria. Ministry officials and relevant authorities attended the meeting. The minister emphasized the benefits of the plant, one of the governorate’s most extensive wastewater treatment facilities, with a capacity of up to 800,000 cubic meters per day and serving approximately 4 million people. He also highlighted the need to maintain the plant through regular maintenance and the implementation of comprehensive plans.
During the meeting, Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny continued to monitor the plant’s operational progress and the latest updates on the sludge digester, reviewing its components and the project’s recent developments. The minister also followed up on the environmental improvement project to reduce emissions and utilize alternative energy at the Eastern Treatment Plant. With an estimated cost of around EGP 2 billion, this project has been awarded to a consortium of Swiss and Arab contractor companies under the supervision of the Executive Authority for Drinking Water and Wastewater Projects.
