Engineer Randa El-Menshawy, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, held a meeting to review the implementation status of the Major General Omar Suleiman Corridor and the Mohamed Naguib Corridor in Alexandria Governorate, as well as the latest developments in the Great Transfiguration Project above the Land of Peace in Saint Catherine City, being implemented by the Central Agency for Reconstruction. The meeting was attended by Major General Osama El-Genzoury, Chairman of the Central Agency for Reconstruction, along with several ministry officials.
At the beginning of the meeting, Engineer Randa El-Menshawy emphasized the importance of the road projects being implemented by the Central Agency for Reconstruction in Alexandria Governorate, describing them as strategic development projects that contribute to improving citizens’ quality of life, enhancing the efficiency of infrastructure, road networks, and transportation corridors, and supporting the state’s efforts to achieve comprehensive and sustainable urban development.
The Minister of Housing added that the road and corridor projects currently under implementation in Alexandria Governorate are receiving special priority due to their significant role in reducing traffic congestion on existing routes, improving traffic flow, facilitating mobility throughout the governorate, and strengthening connectivity between existing urban areas and new urban expansion zones to the east and west, thereby supporting development and investment.
The meeting reviewed the implementation status of the Major General Omar Suleiman Corridor (the Western Ring Arc of Alexandria Governorate), which connects the Cairo–Alexandria Desert Road with Borg El Arab International Airport, Borg El Arab City, and the Northwestern Coast.
The 20-kilometer corridor begins at Kilometer 40 on the Cairo–Alexandria Desert Road, passes through Borg El Arab International Airport and the Borg El Arab Industrial Zone, and extends to the International Coastal Road.
The project aims to provide direct access for all types of vehicles traveling to and from Borg El Arab International Airport, the Northwestern Coast, and the industrial, logistics, and agricultural development areas in and around Borg El Arab City to the Desert Road, which is linked to the regional road network across Egypt.
Engineer Randa El-Menshawy also reviewed the implementation status of the first phase of the Mohamed Naguib Corridor development project, which includes the construction of an overpass at the intersection of the corridor and Gamal Abdel Nasser Road, in addition to connecting the two existing tunnels located south of Abu Qir Road.
The project aims to establish a transverse traffic corridor linking Alexandria’s main longitudinal roads, including the Corniche Road, Gamal Abdel Nasser Road, Mostafa Kamel Street, the Mahmoudia Corridor, the Cairo–Alexandria Agricultural Road, the Ring Road, the Cairo–Alexandria Desert Road, and the International Coastal Road. It also includes the construction of an interchange on Suez Canal Street to connect the Corniche with eastern Alexandria.
The Minister of Housing stressed the importance of adhering to the approved implementation schedules for all road and corridor projects while intensifying construction activities across project sites and maintaining continuous coordination among the concerned entities to overcome any implementation challenges, ensuring the timely completion of the projects and maximizing their benefits for citizens.
The meeting also reviewed the latest developments in the Great Transfiguration Project above the Land of Peace in Saint Catherine City. Engineer Randa El-Menshawy affirmed that the project continues to receive close attention and follow-up due to the site’s unique religious, spiritual, and historical significance on a global level.
She noted that the project aims to develop the area through an integrated vision that preserves its environmental and heritage character while providing the necessary services and facilities to accommodate visitors from around the world.
The meeting concluded with a review of the implementation status of the various components of the Great Transfiguration Project, including infrastructure and utility works, in preparation for the project’s operation according to the approved implementation schedule.
