In a meeting on Wednesday evening, Eng. Sherif El-Sherbiny, Egypt’s Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, met with Mohamed Gibran, Minister of Labor, to explore ways to strengthen collaboration between their ministries. The discussions focused on labor affairs in the water and wastewater sector and across the construction industry nationwide.

El-Sherbiny emphasized the Ministry of Housing’s commitment to enhancing services for employees within the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater, ensuring their well-being and promoting safe, dignified work conditions. The Minister highlighted that under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the Egyptian state has prioritized the welfare of workers in developmental fields, especially in construction, who have played a pivotal role in transforming the country’s deserts into vibrant urban communities.

Minister of Labor Mohamed Gibran reviewed efforts to enhance vocational training for youth and workers, addressing the needs of both domestic and international markets. He underscored the Ministry of Labor’s readiness to collaborate with the Ministry of Housing to train skilled labor for the evolving job market.

Gibran also noted provisions in the upcoming labor law, which includes new protections for irregular workers, offering financial support and health benefits. He stressed the importance of building a robust database for unregistered workers and promoting safety standards. Both ministers agreed on organizing joint training sessions and awareness campaigns to promote workplace safety, and they encouraged companies to comply with minimum wage regulations to ensure fair compensation for all workers.
