This morning, Eng. Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, visited the ongoing Azbakeya Garden revitalization project in Cairo. The initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Housing, is part of the broader plan to restore the grandeur of historic Cairo, enabling it to reclaim its cultural and historical significance. The minister was accompanied by officials from the ministry and the New Urban Communities Authority.

During the inspection, Minister El-Sherbiny toured various sections of the garden to assess the progress of construction, installation, and restoration work. He emphasized the importance of accelerating implementation rates to ensure the project’s timely completion with the highest quality standards. The revitalized Azbakeya Garden will soon open to the public, providing a lush, historic retreat for Cairo residents.

The project encompasses several key elements, including the restoration of the lake, the historic fountain, the Roman theater, pergolas, fences, a café, and a restaurant. The development is guided by three primary objectives:

  1. Preservation of Heritage Trees: Protecting and maintaining the garden’s historically valuable trees.
  2. Renovation of Key Features: Restoring components such as the iconic fountain, the fencing club building, and the heritage hill area.
  3. Revitalization of Facilities: Reviving the lake, open-air theater, café, and traditional pergolas.

The Azbakeya Garden project exemplifies the state’s commitment to preserving Cairo’s historical identity while creating modern recreational spaces for its residents.
