Minister of Housing Inspects Desalination Plants and Sanitation Projects in Marsa Matrouh
Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, along with Major General Khaled Shuaib, Governor of Matrouh, conducted an inspection of the ongoing work at the seawater desalination plants in Marsa Matrouh. They were accompanied by Dr. Sayed Ismail, Deputy Minister, Dr. Mohamed Hassan, CEO of the Regulatory Authority for Drinking Water and Wastewater, Engineer Amin Ghoneim, Vice President of the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) for Development and City Development, and officials from the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater, as well as the Matrouh Water and Wastewater Company. This visit followed their inspection of a sewage treatment plant in the area.
In a press statement today, Minister El-Sherbiny noted that since 2014, 10 drinking water projects have been completed in Matrouh Governorate, with a total investment exceeding EGP 1.8 billion. Additionally, seven sanitation projects have been completed, costing more than EGP 1.2 billion. Currently, three more drinking water projects are underway, with an estimated cost of EGP 3 billion, along with seven ongoing sanitation projects totaling over EGP 2.1 billion. These projects are being executed by the National Authority for Drinking Water and Wastewater, a body affiliated with the Ministry.
During the visit, the Minister received a detailed briefing from officials of the Matrouh Water and Wastewater Company regarding the status of water and sanitation services provided to the citizens. They discussed the governorate’s needs for water and sanitation services. The Minister emphasized the importance of adhering to the highest standards of operation and maintenance to ensure the longevity and efficiency of the facilities, ensuring top-quality service delivery. He also announced the formation of a committee to assess the water and sanitation needs of the governorate and to prioritize the projects for implementation.
