After inspecting several projects in Beheira Governorate, Engineer Sherif El-Sherbini, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, visited New Alamein City, where he conducted a tour to follow up on the construction of a seawater desalination plant with a production capacity of 10,000 cubic meters per day for irrigation purposes, in addition to the plant’s marine intake. He was accompanied during the visit by officials from the ministry, the city authority, Arab Contractors Company, and the Regulatory Agency for Potable Water and Sanitation.
During his tour of the plant, the Minister emphasized the state’s growing focus on seawater desalination and its commitment to strengthening this field as a key component of sustainable development strategies. He stressed the need to rely on the latest technologies to ensure improved efficiency of desalination plants and increased output, which contributes to effectively meeting future water demands.
Engineer Sherif El-Sherbini explained that Egypt’s national water desalination strategy aims to adopt innovative solutions and advanced technologies to meet the needs of both potable water and sanitation sectors. These efforts include implementing integrated projects for seawater desalination and the reuse of treated water, with particular attention to localizing the technology used in order to address the rising demand for water resources.
He added that the ministry attaches great importance to using modern technologies that reduce energy consumption in desalination operations, while also promoting the reuse of treated wastewater. The Minister also highlighted the significance of benefiting from the private sector’s expertise in implementing water purification, desalination, and wastewater treatment projects to ensure the sustainability of water resources and to support comprehensive development.
