Engineer Sherif El-Sherbini, the Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, stated that the reconciliation of building violations is one of the most critical issues that the ministry is currently addressing.
Meetings with City Authorities During a press conference held at the ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, El-Sherbini announced that meetings with city authority heads have been conducted to discuss key concerns. Among the most common violations identified were unauthorized rooftop constructions and changes in the use of properties.
Process for Reconciliation of Violations El-Sherbini revealed that some individuals attempted to create new violations to seek reconciliation. To address this, a decision has been made to allow those who have adhered to regulations to apply for formal permits. They can do so by paying the necessary fees and completing a set of procedures. The application process for reconciliation will open on December 1, 2024. Meanwhile, new violations will be strictly countered.
Regarding the conversion of spaces like basements for residential use, the minister noted that up to 40% of such areas could be converted, ensuring that the availability of parking spaces in new cities is not compromised.
Conference Highlights The press conference also covered the ministry’s plans across various sectors, upcoming offerings of housing units and land plots, the status of ongoing projects, and progress on the presidential initiative “Decent Life.”
At the beginning of the conference, the minister announced the launch of 70,000 housing units, set for early November. These include 60,000 units for low-income individuals and 10,000 units for middle-income individuals.
