Minister of Housing Presides Over Meeting of the Supreme Coordination Committee for Drinking Water and Sanitation, Underscoring the Importance of Completing the Presidential Initiative “Decent Life” Projects Within Set Timelines and Highlighting the Need to Expand Private Sector Partnerships, Particularly in Desalination and Sanitation
Engineer Randa El-Menshawy, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, chaired a meeting of the Supreme Coordination Committee of Drinking Water and Sanitation Companies at the company’s headquarters.
The meeting was attended by Engineer Ahmed Omran, Deputy Minister of Housing for Utilities; Engineer Mostafa El-Shimy, Acting Chairman of the Holding Company; Dr. Salah Bayoumi; Major General Assem Shokr; and Dr. Abul Abbas Issa, Vice Chairman of the Board, along with heads of affiliated companies.
During the meeting, the minister stressed the importance of completing the projects under the presidential initiative “Decent Life” according to the established timelines. She called for accelerating implementation, adhering strictly to schedules, and expediting project delivery to ensure their timely operation and the realization of their intended benefits.
She also instructed that preparations begin for the second phase of the initiative by developing the necessary studies and engineering designs, in coordination with the relevant authorities. The minister further emphasized the need to implement and commit to the investment plan to maximize benefits for citizens.
She highlighted the importance of increasing collection rates to ensure sustainable service delivery, reducing water losses, and expanding partnerships with the private sector across various areas, especially in desalination and sanitation projects. Additionally, she stressed improving the efficiency of operation and maintenance at stations.
She commended the leadership of the holding company for their efforts, expressing confidence in their ability to manage this vital sector effectively and achieve the state’s objectives.
For his part, Engineer Ahmed Omran, Deputy Minister of Housing for Utilities, underscored the importance of expanding desalination projects as a key source of water supply for coastal governorates. He also highlighted the need to maximize the use of assets owned by affiliated companies, adopt modern investment approaches, and carefully select sites with strong investment potential.
He stressed the importance of data accuracy and its consistency with actual conditions, as well as accelerating the registration and updating of customer data—particularly for non-residential activities—to improve collection efficiency and support informed decision-making.
Meanwhile, Engineer Mostafa El-Shimy welcomed the minister’s visit to the holding company’s headquarters, noting that her presence reflects the level of attention and close follow-up. He reaffirmed his commitment to project timelines, accelerating execution, and enhancing the quality of services provided to citizens across different governorates.
He also pointed to ongoing efforts to develop operation and maintenance systems through the implementation of preventive maintenance programs, improving the efficiency of stations and networks, and expanding the use of technological solutions and digital transformation to ensure the sustainability of services.
