Engineer Sherif El Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, held a meeting to review the progress of work within the Utilities Sector of the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA). The meeting also covered the status of several utility projects and strategies for developing new cities. The session was attended by senior officials from the Ministry and the Authority.
At the beginning of the meeting, Minister Sherif El Sherbiny emphasized the importance of ensuring consistent and high-quality drinking water and sanitation services that meet future needs. He highlighted the expansion of smart prepaid water meters across all new cities as a key priority.
The minister also pointed to the need to complete the Geographic Information System (GIS) framework to record and document all utility networks and establish a comprehensive and effective database for all implemented projects.

El Sherbiny stressed the necessity of enhancing services provided to citizens and investors while adopting more efficient methods for collecting financial dues. He directed the establishment of a fully integrated electronic system for water meters in new cities that facilitates both payment and contracting procedures.
Furthermore, he underlined the importance of standardizing work and monitoring mechanisms at the ministry level, while offering flexible payment options via smart applications such as Instapay and Fawry to help residents settle overdue bills and pay for mechanical water meters.
The minister also emphasized the importance of promptly handling user complaints and resolving them efficiently to strengthen public trust in the services provided. During the meeting, El Sherbiny discussed ongoing efforts within the GIS system, particularly regarding network uploads and hydraulic system analyses to keep pace with the significant expansions in new projects.
He also reviewed the performance and future plans of the Utilities Sector, highlighting the government’s collaboration with the private sector to develop specialized projects and support local industries by relying on Egyptian-made products.
Additionally, he encouraged waste recycling and reuse, improving revenue collection processes, minimizing losses, and rationalizing water consumption. The minister reiterated the need to implement a governance framework for monitoring industrial water consumption in new cities.
As part of his ongoing follow-up on seawater desalination projects, the minister reviewed the current status of several stations that have been completed or are under construction. The discussions included the desalination plant in New Alamein City, another east of Matrouh, and a new station planned for southern Alamein, which is currently under design and implementation.
