Minister of Housing Follows Up on the Execution Status of Several Projects in Beheira

Engineer Sherif El-Sherbini, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, arrived in Beheira Governorate to monitor progress in the implementation of projects related to the potable water and wastewater systems, in addition to the ongoing projects under the presidential initiative Decent Life. He was received by Dr. Jacqueline Azar, Governor of Beheira, in the presence of officials from the Ministry of Housing, the governorate, the Holding Company for Drinking Water and Wastewater, the National Authority for Drinking Water and Wastewater, and Beheira Water and Wastewater Company.

The minister began his tour by reviewing the operation of the drinking water system in the governorate, managed by Beheira Water Company. The system includes 64 water stations with a production capacity of 1.6 million cubic meters per day, in addition to water networks and transmission lines extending over 12,500 km. The minister and governorate officials also reviewed the wastewater system, which comprises 257 treatment and pumping stations and sewer networks extending 2,700 km, treating about 527,000 cubic meters of wastewater daily.

Furthermore, the minister followed up on projects under the presidential Decent Life initiative, which aims to serve residents of 23 villages across several districts, along with externally funded projects that include expansions of stations, rehabilitation, and renewal of water networks and pipelines.

The minister also reviewed the efforts of the National Authority for Drinking Water and Wastewater in implementing projects in Beheira Governorate from 2014 to 2025. Major General Amin Shawky, Chairman of the Authority, explained that the achievements included establishing 7 water stations with a production capacity of 317,000 cubic meters per day, and carrying out 19 projects to develop water networks and pipelines at a cost of EGP 3.268 billion. On the other hand, 9 wastewater treatment plants were established with a capacity of 182,000 cubic meters per day, in addition to the implementation of 55 wastewater projects with a total cost of EGP 3.6 billion.

The Decent Life projects executed by the Authority were also reviewed. Phase one, with a cost of EGP 534 million, provided services to nine villages through the establishment of water and wastewater networks and the expansion of wastewater treatment plants. Phase two included projects worth EGP 631.9 million to serve eight additional villages in the same areas. Moreover, the Authority’s investment plan projects include two water stations with a total production capacity of 102,000 cubic meters per day, three treatment plants with a capacity of 35,000 cubic meters per day, in addition to projects related to pumping stations, completion of networks in urban areas, and 23 wastewater projects.

At the end of his visit, Engineer Sherif El-Sherbini stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation between the Ministry of Housing and Beheira Governorate in all matters related to projects, while prioritizing execution and accelerating progress in projects that have already achieved high completion rates. He also requested the preparation of a weekly report to assess progress on ongoing works.

The minister further emphasized the importance of conducting a comprehensive study of the governorate’s needs based on population density and the number of incoming residents to ensure effective and sustainable fulfillment of potable water and wastewater project requirements.
