Eng. Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, held a meeting with representatives of the Coordination of Youth Parties and Politicians to discuss the ministry’s ongoing efforts and projects. The meeting was moderated by MP Amr Darwish.
At the outset, Minister El-Sherbiny expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to engage with the group, emphasizing the importance of addressing public concerns. He outlined the ministry’s strategic objectives, which include resource optimization, diversifying revenue streams, enhancing performance across project sites, and implementing governance measures. He highlighted the ministry’s focus on restructuring and cultivating a second generation of leadership.

The minister noted the need for approximately 450,000 housing units annually to accommodate population growth. Currently, the ministry aims to construct 200,000 units, with 150,000 allocated for low-income families and 50,000 for middle-income households. He praised the success of the presidential initiative “Housing for All Egyptians” and pledged continued efforts to meet the high demand.
He also announced a new initiative, “Your Home in Egypt,” targeting Egyptians living abroad. This program, developed in collaboration with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, will provide exclusive opportunities for expatriates to own property in Egypt.
Collaboration with the Private Sector
El-Sherbiny emphasized the growing role of private sector partnerships in real estate development and marketing strategies. He outlined plans for several new cities with promising investment opportunities, aiming to strengthen the sector’s contribution to national development.
Infrastructure and “Decent Life” Initiative
In the utilities sector, significant progress has been made on water and wastewater projects, particularly within the presidential “Decent Life” initiative for rural development. The minister reported that phase one is nearing completion and has already achieved notable success.
Urban Planning and Reconciliation Efforts
The minister addressed efforts to streamline property reconciliation, regulate land and housing transfers, and revise urban zoning policies. He also announced plans for innovative approaches to middle-income housing and further development of urban boundaries.
Parliament and Public Engagement
During the discussion, participants commended the ministry’s achievements in addressing building requirements, informal settlements, and urban expansion. They also praised the development of the Great Transfiguration Project, which aims to create a world-class tourist destination.
The minister concluded by reaffirming the ministry’s commitment to enhancing citizens’ quality of life and ensuring progress across all housing and urban development sectors. He announced plans to hold biweekly meetings with Parliament members to address public concerns and expedite solutions.
