Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, emphasized the importance of full preparedness to face rainfall and floods in new cities, stressing the need for prior planning to deal with potential emergencies during the winter season.
The Minister confirmed the necessity of forming specialized task forces to respond immediately to severe weather conditions and increased rainwater accumulation, while providing the necessary equipment for urgent interventions. He also highlighted the importance of regular inspections of rainwater drainage networks and sewer inlets to ensure their cleaning and readiness to operate with high efficiency.
El-Sherbiny stressed the importance of continuous coordination with relevant entities, including the Civil Protection Authority, Ambulance Authority, electricity distribution companies, and the Holding Company for Drinking Water and Wastewater.

The goal of this coordination is to accelerate crisis response, enhance maintenance and cleaning of drainage networks and main manholes, and ensure the safe disposal of excess water. He also underlined the need to implement preventive measures to protect facilities and safeguard citizens.
As part of these efforts, officials from several new city authorities—including New Cairo, New Suez, New Assiut, and New Qena—inspected the alignment and readiness of maintenance and utility equipment. Practical drills were also conducted to verify the efficiency of these tools, and the preparedness of crisis and disaster committees was evaluated to ensure their ability to respond quickly and effectively to protect lives and property.
