Eng. Randa El-Menshawy, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, held a video conference meeting to review the progress of projects being implemented under the presidential “Decent Life” (Hayah Karima) initiative for the development of the Egyptian countryside, within the ministry’s scope of responsibility.
The meeting was attended by Eng. Ahmed Omran, Deputy Minister of Housing for Utilities, along with officials from the ministry’s affiliated entities responsible for project implementation and the execution consultant. The meeting reviewed the implementation status of the first phase of the initiative.
A total of approximately 10,315 projects fall within the ministry’s responsibilities and are being carried out by the Central Agency for Reconstruction, the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater, the National Organization for Potable Water and Sanitary Drainage, and the Executive Authority for Potable Water and Sanitary Drainage.
The meeting also covered the various sectors included in the projects, which encompass drinking water and wastewater projects, including water treatment and wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, transmission pipelines, water and sewer networks, and household connections.
In addition, the projects include roads, paving and leveling works, electricity networks, government and agricultural service complexes, bridges, youth centers, hospitals, social solidarity facilities, ambulance units, and healthcare units. These projects are expected to bring a significant improvement in the quality of services provided to residents of the targeted villages.
The minister of housing emphasized that the presidential “Decent Life” initiative represents the largest comprehensive development project in Egypt’s history. She noted that it reflects the political leadership’s vision of achieving integrated and sustainable development in the Egyptian countryside by upgrading essential services and improving citizens’ quality of life, while promoting balanced regional development and expanding development opportunities across all governorates.
Eng. Randa El-Menshawy stressed the importance of maintaining an accelerated pace of work to complete the first-phase projects, while intensifying field monitoring and removing any obstacles that could affect implementation rates. She also called for the swift completion and commissioning of projects to maximize the benefits of the state’s investments and directly improve the quality of services provided to citizens.
The minister also reviewed preparations for the second phase of the “Decent Life” initiative, directing officials to prepare comprehensive implementation plans and strengthen coordination among all executing entities to ensure the rapid launch of projects and achieve the targeted objectives in accordance with the highest standards of quality and efficiency.
She noted that the upcoming phase requires continued teamwork, full commitment to implementation schedules, and adherence to targeted completion rates. The ministry, she added, will continue closely monitoring all projects to ensure they are executed according to the highest technical standards and delivered to citizens in a way that fulfills the initiative’s goals of improving quality of life and enhancing essential public services.
The meeting also reviewed the implementation progress of ongoing projects in several governorates, including Gharbia, Qalyubia, Kafr El Sheikh, Damietta, Luxor, Aswan, Beni Suef, Assiut, Minya, and Fayoum. Discussions covered completion percentages, implementation progress, and the measures required to overcome any obstacles, ensuring that projects are completed according to their scheduled timelines.
