Land Allocation for the Establishment of a Field Hospital in Suez Governorate to Serve the Ain Sokhna Tourism Sector
Engineer Sherif Shorbagy, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, chaired a meeting of the Board of Directors of the General Authority for Tourism Development. The meeting reviewed the Authority’s efforts to support development at the sites under its jurisdiction. The meeting was attended by Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development; Mr. Sherif Fathy, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities; and Major General Khaled Mubarak, Governor of South Sinai, either in person or via video conference.
During the meeting, the Board of Directors of the General Authority for Tourism Development approved the general budget project for the fiscal year 2025/2026. Additionally, they approved a request from the General Authority for Healthcare to allocate 8,000 square meters of land from the General Authority for Tourism Development jurisdiction to benefit the Suez Governorate. The land will be used to establish a field hospital serving the Ain Sokhna tourism sector. The National Center for State Land Use Planning will be notified to take action.
The meeting also discussed the quarterly progress report on implementing the Authority’s projects across all tourism development sectors until December 2024. This included monitoring 573 main projects distributed across development patterns: 506 limited development projects and 67 integrated development projects, with 1,158 sub-projects, bringing the total to 1,664 projects across all tourism sectors. Additionally, proposed mechanisms to stimulate hotel tourism investment projects under the General Authority for Tourism Development were reviewed, along with several topics related to tourism development projects, with decisions made accordingly.
The meeting also reviewed the results of the facilitations granted to tourism development and investment companies regarding settling their financial obligations to the Authority. It discussed the status of several delayed projects and mechanisms to address them.
Furthermore, the meeting covered all procedures against delinquent companies and those whose implementation progress was less than 15%. It also discussed the full capabilities of executing the required significant projects.
Minister Shorbagy concluded the meeting by emphasizing the need to implement the political leadership’s directives to increase hotel room capacity and expand tourism projects. He instructed that a complete classification of the delayed cases be prepared and presented at the next meeting of the Board. He noted that this proposal would be reviewed before being given, in addition to forming a committee involving relevant authorities to amend the technical regulations governing the mechanisms of the General Authority for Tourism Development to include all necessary cases and procedures for the upcoming phase.
