Eng. Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, has revealed that the first phase of the water purification plant in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital is currently underway. This phase has a capacity of 400,000 cubic meters per day. The plant’s total capacity will reach 1.5 million cubic meters per day, making it one of the largest water treatment plants in the country. In addition to the plant, construction is progressing on the intake, water transmission lines, and pumping stations.

Simultaneously, the first phase of the sewage treatment plant in the New Administrative Capital is also being executed, with a capacity of 250,000 cubic meters per day.

The announcement came during the signing of a contract to regulate and manage the water and sewage systems in the New Administrative Capital. The contract was signed between the New Urban Communities Authority and the Administrative Capital for Urban Development Company, with Minister El-Sherbiny and Khaled Abbas, Chairman and Managing Director of the company, in attendance.

Minister El-Sherbiny emphasized that the contract, drafted by the Regulatory Authority for Drinking Water and Sanitation and Consumer Protection, marks a significant step in governing the water and sewage systems in the New Administrative Capital. It also represents a model of collaboration between state entities, aiming to achieve sustainable development goals, optimize water consumption, reduce losses, and maximize the use of treated water for specific purposes in line with international standards.
