At the end of their field tour, Engineer Randa El Menshawy, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, and Dr. Mohamed Hani Ghoneim, Governor of Fayoum, inspected the expansion works of the “Kahk” wastewater treatment plant in the Youssef El-Seddik Center, as part of the presidential initiative “Decent Life (Hayah Karima).”
They were joined by Engineer Ahmed Omran, Deputy Minister of Housing for the Utilities Sector; Dr. Mohamed El-Touny, Deputy Governor of Fayoum; as well as several ministry and governorate officials and heads of implementing agencies. The visit aimed to review implementation progress and assess the latest updates on the project.
The minister and the governor followed up on the different components of the project and listened to a detailed briefing on the ongoing works. The plant has a design capacity of 7,500 m³/day and operates with a secondary treatment system.
It is being constructed over an area of 5 feddans and includes civil and electromechanical works. Once completed, it will serve approximately 45,000 residents in Sa‘aida Qibliya village and nearby areas within the Youssef El-Seddik Center.
During the visit, the minister emphasized the importance of daily monitoring of work progress, accelerating the implementation of electro-mechanical components, and ensuring completion according to the highest quality standards and within the shortest possible time frame.
Engineer Randa El Menshawy and Dr. Mohamed Hani Ghoneim also inspected the Youssef El-Seddik wastewater treatment plant, which is also part of the “Decent Life” initiative in the same center.
They were briefed on the ongoing works, as the plant has a design capacity of 5,000 m³/day. Civil and electromechanical works are currently underway. The project will serve around 30,000 residents across the villages of Al Jawahargi, Al Abaadiya, Al Shimi, Afifi, and Gunaidi, in addition to Youssef El-Seddik City.
The minister underlined that ongoing wastewater projects in Fayoum Governorate, particularly in Youssef El-Seddik and Itsaa centers, form a key pillar in improving public services in these areas. She noted that the state places strong importance on upgrading wastewater systems in villages covered under the “Decent Life” initiative.
She added that the ministry is continuously monitoring implementation rates across all projects and ensuring adherence to planned timelines while maintaining the highest quality standards to maximize benefits for citizens.
She further stated that the expansion and upgrading of wastewater treatment plants support the sustainability of services. The ministry, she affirmed, is working in full coordination with relevant authorities to speed up implementation and overcome any challenges facing contractors, ensuring timely delivery and operation of projects, which will positively impact the quality of life in the targeted villages.
For his part, the Governor of Fayoum highlighted the importance of expanding the use of advanced tertiary treatment technologies to ensure safe and sustainable water reuse, in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030.
He pointed to the role of these projects in improving living standards across Fayoum villages, stressing the governorate’s commitment to removing any obstacles facing contractors to ensure timely commissioning and comprehensive resolution of wastewater issues. He added that the governorate is making major efforts to ensure the sustainability and stability of drinking water and sanitation systems, placing this sector at the top of its daily priorities.
This is being achieved through full coordination among executive bodies, the water company, and the national authority, along with close field monitoring of implementation rates across all sites, to maximize benefits for citizens and affirm that strong infrastructure is a key driver of economic and social development across the governorate.
On the sidelines of the visit, the Minister of Housing and the Governor of Fayoum also met with several members of Parliament to discuss their proposals and complaints.
Engineer Randa El Menshawy stressed the importance of enhancing joint efforts to support project implementation, noting that all efforts are being made to complete the first phase of the “Decent Life” initiative, while also preparing for the launch of its second phase.
