Eng. Randa El-Menshawy, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, received Dr. Jacqueline Azar, Governor of Beheira, at the Ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital to follow up on the status of several drinking water and wastewater projects in the governorate, identify urgent needs, and discuss proposed solutions to improve the level of services provided to citizens.
The meeting was attended by Eng. Ahmed Omran, deputy minister of housing for utilities, along with a number of ministry officials and representatives of its affiliated entities.
Supporting Governorate Efforts and Improving Services
At the beginning of the meeting, Eng. Randa El-Menshawy welcomed Dr. Jacqueline Azar, affirming the ministry’s commitment to supporting the governorate’s efforts and meeting citizens’ needs in a way that contributes to improving the services provided to residents, particularly in the drinking water, wastewater, and housing sectors, while achieving the state’s goals of enhancing service levels and improving quality of life.
Eng. Randa El-Menshawy stressed that the Ministry gives special priority to monitoring the implementation rates of ongoing projects and working to quickly overcome any obstacles they may face, ensuring that projects enter service within the scheduled timeframes and that maximum benefit is achieved from investments directed to the utilities sector.
She also emphasized the importance of continuous coordination with the governorate and the ministry’s affiliated entities to identify actual needs and priorities, contributing to improved services for citizens.
For her part, Dr. Jacqueline Azar, Governor of Beheira, expressed her appreciation for the efforts of the Ministry of Housing and its affiliated entities in implementing drinking water, wastewater, and housing projects across the governorate.
She emphasized the importance of continuing coordination and cooperation with the ministry to improve the level of basic services and enhance quality of life across the governorate’s various centers, cities, and villages.
Reviewing Drinking Water and Wastewater Projects
During the meeting, the status of several areas in Beheira Governorate that are expected to face needs in the drinking water sector during the summer of 2026 was reviewed, along with permanent solutions to address them.
Proposed interventions to increase water quantities and improve water pressure were also discussed, in addition to following up on several projects, including the expansion of the intake of the Edko Water Station, with a capacity of 86,430 cubic meters per day.
In the wastewater sector, the status of the Al-Maadiya Wastewater Treatment Plant, with a capacity of 3,000 cubic meters per day, was reviewed. The plant serves the villages of Al-Maadiya, Zarzara, Zeitoun, and Al-Halawani.
It was noted that coordination had been carried out to overcome all challenges in preparation for operating the plant at full capacity following the successful completion of the required tests.
The meeting also reviewed the status of drinking water and wastewater projects currently being implemented in Beheira Governorate under the investment plan for fiscal year 2026/2027, totaling 52 projects. These include drinking water plants and networks, wastewater treatment plants, gravity networks, lifting stations, and force mains across several centers and cities in the governorate.
Housing and Future Development Needs
The meeting also reviewed the status of low-income housing projects under the “Housing for All Egyptians” initiative in the governorate, which total 7,830 housing units, in addition to the governorate’s future needs in several centers, most notably Damanhour, Kafr El-Dawar, Abu Hummus, Hosh Issa, Itay El-Baroud, and El Delengat.
The status of utility works at the vocational complex in Farhash, Hosh Issa, was also reviewed. The complex is being developed on a total area of approximately 13 feddans. The first phase of the project has been structurally completed and includes residential and administrative units, vocational workshops, commercial shops, a product exhibition hall, and a storage building.
Continued Coordination and Follow-Up
At the conclusion of the meeting, it was agreed to continue coordination and cooperation between the Ministry of Housing and Beheira Governorate, conduct periodic follow-up on the projects, and overcome any obstacles facing the implementation process.
