Engineer Randa El Menshawy, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, met with Engineer Amr Lasheen, Governor of Aswan, to review the implementation status of drinking water and wastewater projects across the governorate, discuss ways to accelerate execution rates, and address challenges facing several ongoing projects.
The meeting was attended by Engineer Ahmed Omran, Deputy Minister of Housing for Utilities, along with ministry officials. At the beginning of the meeting, Minister Randa El Menshawy welcomed the governor of Aswan, emphasizing the ministry’s continued commitment to providing comprehensive support to the governorate through the projects it is implementing.
She noted that these efforts contribute to improving the quality of life and enhancing the level of services provided to citizens. She also stressed that projects in Upper Egyptian governorates receive significant attention from the ministry as part of the state’s vision to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development.
Engineer Randa El Menshawy affirmed that the drinking water and wastewater sectors represent one of the key pillars of sustainable development. She highlighted the ministry’s commitment to implementing projects according to the highest standards of quality and efficiency, ensuring enhanced services and maximizing the benefits of the state’s investments in this vital sector.
For his part, Engineer Amr Lasheen, Governor of Aswan, expressed his appreciation for the ongoing cooperation and coordination with the Ministry of Housing and its executive bodies. He reaffirmed the governorate’s commitment to strengthening collaboration and integration with the Ministry in implementing drinking water and wastewater projects to meet citizens’ needs and support the governorate’s development plans.
The meeting reviewed the overall status of the drinking water and wastewater system in Aswan Governorate, in addition to following up on projects included under the presidential Decent Life initiative for developing Egypt’s rural villages, which aims to improve essential services and enhance citizens’ quality of life.
The participants also reviewed the implementation status of several projects, including the Karour Wastewater Pumping Station and the expansions of the Nasseriya Wastewater Treatment Station, which will serve the Khor Awada area as well as the Rural and New El Seil districts.
In this regard, the Minister of Housing directed officials to remove any obstacles hindering the implementation to ensure the timely completion of these projects. The minister also instructed officials to study the implementation of urgent solutions, including the provision of compact drinking water treatment units to temporarily serve affected areas until ongoing projects are completed.
She further directed the preparation of an integrated plan to rehabilitate and renew drinking water networks across Aswan Governorate in parallel with new expansion projects, in addition to supporting the Aswan Drinking Water and Wastewater Company and carrying out comprehensive maintenance of its equipment.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed to continue coordination and joint cooperation between the Ministry of Housing and Aswan Governorate while intensifying field inspections and periodic follow-up of implementation progress to ensure the swift completion of projects and maximize their benefits for the residents of the governorate.
