Eng. Amr Khattab, spokesperson for the Ministry of Housing, confirmed that the news regarding the availability of the electronic platform to submit applications for obtaining alternative housing units under the old rent law, and the start of its operation in October, is accurate. He clarified that the matter is under direct and daily supervision, stressing that the platform is fully ready, based on the statement issued about two weeks ago.
Khattab emphasized that the platform will open the door for reservations and applications for all those interested, in accordance with Article 8 of Law No. 164 of 2025, which aims to regulate the relationship between landlords and tenants in a fair and balanced manner. He also confirmed that the platform will be launched on the first of October, urging beneficiaries to prepare the required documents in advance.
He pointed out that the required documents include: an official request from the original tenant or the person to whom the tenancy relationship has been extended, a copy of the lease contract or proof of the ongoing tenancy relationship, a declaration to vacate and hand over the rented unit once the alternative unit is received, and a copy of the tenant’s or extended tenant’s national ID card.

Additionally, copies of birth certificates for minor children or national ID cards for adult children are required. The documents also include proof of marital status, such as marriage or divorce certificates, court empowerment decisions in the event of death, and the death certificate. For persons with disabilities, specific documents such as the Integrated Services Certificate must be submitted.
He added that all documents will be uploaded through the electronic platform after creating a personal account to track the application. The ministry has also provided two options to facilitate the application process: the electronic platform itself and post offices spread across all governorates of Egypt. He explained that the goal of the platform is to provide organized and transparent solutions for those affected by the old rent law to obtain alternative housing, while offering all necessary support to ensure smooth procedures.
