Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, announced the identification of 12 key industries set for localization in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Transport. These industries include electric motors, generators, valves, pumps, water filtration devices, electrical tools, solar cells, and elevator systems. The announcement was made during a meeting of the Industrial Development Ministerial Group, chaired by Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development.
The initiative aims to boost Egypt’s status as a regional industrial hub. The group has tasked its technical secretariat with drafting an urgent implementation plan for adjusting carbon border limits (CBAM) within Egypt’s industrial sector.
Additionally, the Ministry of Petroleum is preparing initiatives to support manufacturers, addressing complaints related to gas supplies and power constraints in various industrial zones, particularly in Kom Oshim in Fayoum.
During the meeting, the challenges of the leather industry were also addressed. The Ministry of Military Production is offering to train workers in leather manufacturing, aiming to meet the sector’s labor demands. Starting January 2025, the National Food Safety Authority will begin issuing digital food safety and health certificates to ensure product authenticity and prevent fraud.
The discussions also included strategies to align licensing rules for heavy industries within the Suez Canal Economic Zone with broader national standards.
