Engineer Raeda El Menshawy, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, reviewed the implementation status of several projects and work files across different sectors in New Obour City.
These included development, maintenance, and infrastructure efficiency improvement works; ongoing road projects; the regularization of lands added to the city; and the intensification of various inspection campaigns, as part of the ministry’s plan to enhance the quality of services in new cities.
Engineer Raeda El Menshawy emphasized that the ministry places great importance on continuous field monitoring of various projects to preserve the state’s investments in infrastructure projects, maximize their utilization, and improve the efficiency of operation and maintenance systems, thereby enhancing the quality of life for residents in new cities.
In this context, the minister reviewed a report on the executive status of several projects, which included the results of an inspection tour conducted by Engineer Mahmoud Morad, Head of the New Obour City Development Authority, and city officials.
The tour covered the road linking the R4 Road to the Cairo–Ismailia Desert Road, the final stages of work at the main square in the 37th District, and the delivery of electricity cables for the Amal neighborhoods in preparation for completing power supply works.
Engineer Raeda El Menshawy also followed up on the construction of the eastern entrance gate to New Obour City, which represents the city’s main urban landmark. She also reviewed infrastructure and utility works in the 19th District, formerly known as the Talaea Area, and the adjacent service strip.
The works included road construction and site preparation in the “Hg G” neighborhood and at the city’s entrance from the Cairo–Ismailia Desert Road, in addition to utility network works. She directed that all works be completed promptly in preparation for announcing the handover schedule for land plots in the targeted areas to citizens.
Regarding the file for regularizing the status of lands added to the city, the minister reviewed the outcomes of a meeting held by Engineer Mahmoud Morad, attended by deputy officials and department heads. The meeting focused on monitoring the progress of land legalization files and reviewing the readiness of technical, administrative, and legal procedures in preparation for completing the regularization process and conducting upcoming land allocation lotteries.
The minister stressed the importance of swiftly finalizing completed files and strengthening coordination among the various departments. The report also reviewed the work carried out by the New Obour City Development Authority in cleaning, maintenance, and landscaping throughout the city.
Campaigns were conducted to remove waste from green spaces and open areas in the Freedom, Nozha, and Modern Style districts. Regular spraying campaigns to combat flying insects continued in the 14th District, alongside the ongoing cleaning and maintenance of sewage manholes and rainwater drainage inlets in the Sakan Misr area and the Zohour and Magd districts.
The report further highlighted the periodic maintenance of the city’s 10,000-cubic-meter storage reservoir. The works included maintenance of the upper operating chamber and routine servicing of compressors to ensure the efficient and stable operation of the drinking water system.
Preventive maintenance was also carried out on sewage networks in the Magd and Nozha districts, in addition to landscaping works in the central island and main squares, maintenance of green areas, palm tree pruning, irrigation, and general cleaning.
The report also reviewed the results of a large-scale campaign to remove encroachments and illegal occupations in the Karama District, as well as efforts to address environmental violations. The city authority seized three transport trucks while they were dumping waste on public roads in the former Amal area and took the necessary legal measures against them. Several vehicles used for illegal waste scavenging were also confiscated.
At the conclusion of the report, Engineer Raeda El Menshawy stressed the importance of continuing daily field inspection tours across all new cities, maintaining preventive maintenance programs, improving infrastructure efficiency, accelerating project implementation rates, and intensifying regulatory campaigns. These efforts aim to provide integrated services for citizens, achieve the objectives of urban development, and support the state’s vision for building the New Republic.
