Engineer Randa El Menshawy Highlights the Vital Role of the Authority in Providing Adequate Housing for Citizens
Engineer Randa El Menshawy, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, convened a meeting with Major General Walid El Baroudi, Chairman of the General Authority for Construction and Housing Cooperatives, to follow up on the authority’s work portfolio and discuss ways to reinforce its role in the upcoming phase.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Walid Abbas, Deputy Minister of Housing for Urban Communities, in addition to officials from the Ministry, the New Urban Communities Authority, and the General Authority for Construction and Housing Cooperatives.
At the start of the meeting, Engineer Randa El Menshawy underlined the significant role of the General Authority for Construction and Housing Cooperatives in securing suitable housing opportunities for citizens.
She also stressed the importance of continuing to modernize the cooperative housing system and increasing its contribution to the state’s urban development strategy in order to help establish integrated urban communities that fulfill citizens’ needs. During the meeting, officials reviewed the implementation status of the housing units carried out by the authority.
The total number of housing units implemented through the authority has reached around 212,000 units, in addition to approximately 1.2 million housing units executed by cooperative housing associations operating under the authority’s supervision. The authority has also provided the necessary land plots for cooperative housing associations across most new cities.
The discussions also addressed the authority’s main areas of operation, including supervising and monitoring cooperative housing associations, developing modern cooperative residential communities in new cities, implementing housing projects for associations throughout the Republic, and supplying commercial units and service lands.
The authority additionally works on carrying out cooperative and investment projects, supporting cooperative housing units, establishing productive cooperative communities based on economic principles, and strengthening Egypt’s regional and international presence in the cooperative sector through the exchange of expertise and successful international experiences.
The meeting further reviewed the implementation status of real estate and utilities works in several of the authority’s projects, including developments located in New Cairo, 6th of October City, Badr City, 10th of Ramadan City, Borg El Arab, and New Damietta, among others.
In addition, the meeting discussed the services already completed, the projects and services currently being offered, and the land plots allocated for future services. The participants also reviewed the key work priorities for the next phase to ensure the authority’s role is further strengthened in supporting the cooperative housing sector and achieving the objectives of comprehensive urban development.
