Engineer Randa El Menshawy, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, reviewed the progress of several service and development projects currently being implemented in the new Upper Egypt cities of New Fayoum, New Assiut, New Minya, and New Qena.
The review comes as part of the ministry’s plan to monitor implementation rates, enhance infrastructure and public services, and accelerate development efforts across these cities. Engineer Randa El Menshawy affirmed that the new Upper Egypt cities receive significant attention from the Ministry of Housing as part of its efforts to support comprehensive development.
She noted that these cities represent a key pillar for achieving sustainable development, attracting investments, and creating job opportunities through the establishment of integrated urban communities equipped with essential services and infrastructure, contributing to improved quality of life and supporting the objectives of Egypt Vision 2030.
As part of these efforts, Engineer Randa El Menshawy received a report on the implementation status of several projects. In New Fayoum City, the minister reviewed, through the findings of a field tour conducted by Engineer Ali Saad, Head of the City Development Authority, the progress of the second phase of the road linking the city with Fayoum.
She also followed the development of the landline telecommunications network, the completion of the first telecommunications cabinet in the Second District, and the continued installation of communication networks in expansion areas and social housing neighborhoods, in preparation for providing telephone and internet services to residents.
The minister also reviewed, through a field inspection conducted by Engineer Ahmed Mahmoud Hassan, Head of the New Assiut City Development Authority, the latest developments in road, public square, and natural gas network projects.
The works included widening the main road connecting the city to Assiut Governorate, upgrading the Eastern Desert Road as one of the key transportation corridors along the Assiut–Red Sea route, developing Al-Nasr Square, and continuing natural gas connections to the Social Housing Area (250 plots). She stressed the importance of accelerating implementation and enhancing infrastructure in line with the city’s development and urban expansion plans.
In New Minya City, the Housing Minister reviewed the results of campaigns aimed at preserving the city’s urban character and visual appearance, led by Engineer Mohamed El Ezzouny, Head of the City Authority. The campaigns intensified efforts to remove building violations and prevent encroachments on public utilities.
She also reviewed enforcement campaigns targeting illegal water connections, which resulted in the detection of 13 illegal water connections in the Crafts District and 13 additional illegal connections at commercial shops. Legal measures were taken against the violators to protect state resources.
The review also included an inspection tour by the city authority head and officials to monitor preventive maintenance works and efficiency upgrades at the water treatment plant and wastewater pumping stations, ensuring the sustainability of services provided to residents.
In New Qena City, the minister reviewed the results of a field tour conducted by Engineer Yasser Abdullah Ramadan, Head of the City Development Authority, which included inspections of markets and service, commercial, and healthcare facilities.
The tour aimed to ensure the availability of essential commodities, assess the quality of services provided to citizens, and verify compliance with health, environmental, and regulatory standards governing various activities, in coordination with the relevant authorities. The review also emphasized intensifying inspection campaigns to maintain order and preserve the city’s urban appearance.
