Engineer Randa El Menshawy, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, reviewed the latest progress of several projects under the presidential “Decent Life” (Hayah Karima) initiative aimed at developing villages across Egypt’s rural areas in the governorates of Gharbia, Damietta, and Sohag.
The projects are being implemented by the National Organization for Potable Water and Sanitary Drainage under the ministry’s supervision and include wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, force mains, gravity sewer lines, and sewerage networks.
The Minister of Housing stated that the ministry places drinking water, sanitation, and public service projects among its top priorities, considering them a cornerstone of the “Decent Life” presidential initiative due to their vital role in improving the quality of life and enhancing services provided to residents of rural Egyptian villages. She affirmed that the ministry will continue to closely monitor the projects until they are completed, operational, and delivering their intended benefits.
Engineer Randa El Menshawy stressed the importance of accelerating implementation rates for drinking water and sanitation projects under the “Decent Life” initiative while intensifying field inspections, adhering to the approved implementation schedules, and swiftly addressing any obstacles that could affect project progress in coordination with the relevant authorities. This, she noted, will ensure that the projects are completed according to the highest standards of quality and efficiency and brought into operation as soon as possible.
As part of her ongoing follow-up of the initiative’s projects, Engineer Randa El Menshawy received a report on the implementation status of several “Decent Life” projects. The report included the findings of field inspection tours conducted by Ministry of Housing officials in several governorates to monitor construction progress, evaluate completion rates, and resolve implementation challenges.
In Gharbia Governorate, Engineer Ahmed Omran, Deputy Minister of Housing for Utilities, conducted an inspection tour of “Decent Life” projects, accompanied by Major General Engineer Amin Shawky, Chairman of the National Organization for Potable Water and Sanitary Drainage, and Major General Engineer Assem Shokr, Vice Chairman of the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater.
The tour included inspections of the expansion works at the Zefta Wastewater Treatment Plant with a capacity of 20,000/30,000 cubic meters per day, the Nahtay Wastewater Treatment Plant expansion with a capacity of 10,000/15,000 cubic meters per day, and the Sharaba Wastewater Treatment Plant expansion with a capacity of 3,000/8,000 cubic meters per day.
Officials reviewed implementation progress and emphasized the need to complete and commission the projects as quickly as possible to maximize benefits for citizens. The report also covered an inspection tour by Engineer Essam Abdel Hamid, Head of the Central Administration for East Delta Projects Implementation at the National Organization for Potable Water and Sanitary Drainage, of “Decent Life” projects in the Damietta Governorate.
The visit included reviewing progress at three wastewater treatment plants: Kafour El Ghab with a capacity of 5,000/10,000 cubic meters per day; Om El Rezq with a capacity of 5,000/10,000 cubic meters per day; and Kafr Suleiman El Bahary with a capacity of 5,000/10,000 cubic meters per day, in addition to taking over the site of the El Dahra Pumping Station in Farskour Center.
In Sohag Governorate, the report included the results of an inspection tour by Engineer Youssef Helmy, Head of the Central Administration for South Upper Egypt Projects Implementation, to monitor progress on “Decent Life” initiative projects and investment plan projects in the drinking water and sanitation sectors.
The tour included an inspection of the sanitation project in Awlad Yahya Qebli Village in Dar El Salam Center under the “Decent Life” initiative and the sanitation project at Mazata East Main in Dar El Salam Center under the initiative, as well as the sanitation project in Dar El Salam City, which is being implemented as part of the governorate’s investment plan projects.
