Eng. Randa El-Menshawy, minister of housing, utilities, and urban communities, received Hanan Magdy, governor of New Valley, at the ministry’s headquarters to follow up on a number of work files and ongoing development and service projects in the governorate, as part of the ministry’s commitment to supporting development efforts across the governorates and enhancing cooperation and coordination with executive authorities in a manner that contributes to improving the level of services provided to citizens.
At the beginning of the meeting, the housing minister welcomed the governor of New Valley, expressing the ministry’s readiness to provide all forms of support for the joint work files and projects currently being implemented in the governorate.
She affirmed the ministry’s commitment to continued coordination and cooperation with New Valley Governorate and to following up on various priority projects and files in a way that achieves the state’s objectives in developing the governorates, maximizing the use of their resources and potential, and improving the level of services provided to citizens.
For her part, the governor of New Valley thanked the housing minister for holding the meeting to discuss joint work files, follow up on the implementation status of a number of projects, and work to overcome the challenges facing project implementation.
The meeting reviewed a number of comprehensive development files, foremost among them the new strategic vision for New Valley Governorate, which aims to preserve natural resources; adapt to climate change; maximize the added value of local resources; diversify the governorate’s economic base; and address the key drivers of the governorate’s strategic vision.
The meeting also discussed coordination efforts between New Valley Governorate and the General Organization for Physical Planning, affiliated with the ministry, to hold consultation sessions to amend the governorate’s strategic urban development plan in accordance with the development features that have been prepared.
This would contribute to supporting the state’s plans to achieve sustainable development and make use of the natural and economic resources and potential enjoyed by New Valley Governorate. The meeting also reviewed the implementation status of 11 projects to establish drinking water stations and three wastewater projects, including expansions to the wastewater system in Mut City, the wastewater project in Paris City, and a wastewater project serving four villages.
The meeting further addressed the implementation status of the Kharga/Sohag road duplication project and efforts to support the implementation of housing projects in the governorate as part of the state’s efforts to provide suitable housing units for various segments of citizens.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Eng. Randa El-Menshawy directed that the governorate and the drinking water and wastewater system be provided with equipment for rapid intervention in emergency situations to serve the residents of the governorate while studying the possibility of establishing a housing project to meet the housing requests of citizens in the New Valley Governorate.
