Engineer Randa El Menshawy, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, inspected the Marsa Matrouh Wastewater Treatment Plant during her tour of Matrouh Governorate to review the plant’s operation and maintenance system, as well as the ongoing expansion works.

She was accompanied by Eng. Ahmed Omran, Deputy Minister of Housing for Utilities; Dr. Islam Ragab, Deputy Governor of Matrouh; Eng. Mostafa El Shimy, Chairman of the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater; and several ministry officials.

During her inspection, the minister reviewed the project’s implementation status and the various stages of the treatment system. She also received a briefing on the plant’s components, which are divided into three main phases.

The first phase has a design capacity of 25,000 cubic meters per day and operates using the oxidation ponds system. The second phase has a capacity of 35,000 cubic meters per day and utilizes secondary treatment, currently operating at full capacity.

Meanwhile, the third phase is under construction with a capacity of 30,000 cubic meters per day, using tertiary treatment, which will increase the plant’s treatment capacity, improve the quality of treated water, and maximize the safe reuse of treated wastewater in accordance with approved environmental standards.

The treatment plant is one of the governorate’s strategic infrastructure projects, aimed at strengthening the wastewater system and improving service efficiency in line with current and future development plans.

At the conclusion of her visit, the Housing Minister directed officials to continue close field monitoring of construction progress and operational efficiency, while ensuring coordination among all relevant authorities to enhance the quality of drinking water and wastewater services provided to the residents of Matrouh Governorate.
