Discussions Address Preparations for Participation in the World Urban Forum “WUF13.”

Randa El Menshawy affirms Egypt’s keenness to strengthen cooperation with the United Nations on sustainable urban development matters.

Engineer Randa El Menshawy, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, met with Ms. Elena Panova, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Egypt, to review various aspects of cooperation between the Ministry of Housing and United Nations agencies, in addition to preparations for participation in the 13th World Urban Forum, set to be held in Baku later this May as one of the most prominent international events dedicated to sustainable urban development.

During the meeting, the minister of housing stressed Egypt’s dedication to expanding cooperation with the United Nations in sustainable urban development and benefiting from global expertise and successful experiences in urban planning, sustainable housing, the development of new cities, and addressing climate change challenges, in accordance with Egypt’s Vision 2030.

Engineer Randa El Menshawy explained that Egypt’s participation in the 13th edition of the World Urban Forum provides a valuable platform to highlight the country’s leading experience in urban development, as well as the accomplishments achieved in new urban communities, housing initiatives, and the redevelopment of unsafe areas, alongside efforts aimed at transitioning toward smart and sustainable cities.

Meanwhile, Ms. Elena Panova expressed her appreciation for the continued cooperation with the Ministry of Housing, commending the significant urban progress Egypt has achieved in recent years and reiterating the United Nations’ commitment to supporting sustainable urban development initiatives and encouraging the exchange of expertise in this area.

The meeting further covered a number of joint cooperation topics, including backing green urban development policies, improving resource efficiency, expanding sustainable initiatives, building institutional capacities, and encouraging innovation in urban planning, in addition to coordinating efforts related to activities and events connected with the 13th World Urban Forum.
