Eng. Randa El-Menshawy, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, followed up on the implementation of infrastructure projects and the development and upgrading of roads and main corridors in the expansions of Sheikh Zayed City, covering an area of approximately 10,000 feddans and known as “New Zayed.”
This comes as part of the ongoing monitoring of implementation rates for utility and infrastructure projects in new cities, as well as efforts to provide the foundations for integrated urban development and improve the level of services provided to citizens.
Eng. Randa El-Menshawy emphasized that the expansions of Sheikh Zayed City represent an important extension of the state’s plan for urban expansion and the development of integrated urban communities. She stressed the importance of accelerating the implementation of infrastructure and utility projects to ensure that the expansion areas are ready to accommodate future stages of urban development.
In this context, the Housing Minister received a report on the implementation status of a number of projects and works, including drinking water, sewage, irrigation, and road networks, in addition to a number of major utility projects. The report explained that work is continuing on the implementation of sewage networks with a total length of up to 132 km, with diameters of up to 1,400 mm and implementation depths reaching 10.5 meters.
Approximately 80% of the drinking water networks have also been completed, with a total length of 95 km and diameters of up to 1,200 mm, as part of efforts to equip the expansion areas with the utility networks required for future development stages.
Work is also continuing on the implementation of irrigation networks with a total length of 85 km and diameters of up to 1,000 mm, serving agricultural and landscaping activities and the development of green spaces across the city.
In the roads sector, the Housing Minister followed up on the implementation of 50 km of roads in the first phase, out of a total of 88 km, with a total road surface area of approximately 3.5 million square meters. Asphalt works have been completed over a length of 10 km, while aggregate base layers have been completed over a length of 40 km, with the remaining works continuing according to the specified schedules.
The report also included the implementation status of a water booster station and a strategic water reservoir with a capacity of 32,000 cubic meters, contributing to the support of the drinking water system and enhancing its capacity to meet the city’s future needs.
Regarding the development and upgrading of roads and main corridors in Sheikh Zayed City, work is continuing to develop and upgrade Al-Bostan Road. Asphalt works are currently underway in front of the 10th and 11th districts, contributing to improving the road’s condition and efficiency, enhancing traffic flow, and providing a safer and more comfortable environment for city residents and visitors to these areas.
The report also addressed the continuation of works to complete the upgrading and development of sidewalks and asphalt works at city entrance No. 6, as part of the city authority’s plan to develop the main entrances and corridors, which serve as the city’s gateway. The plan aims to improve their efficiency and readiness and present them in a modern urban appearance that reflects the status of Sheikh Zayed City and its urban character.
At the conclusion of the follow-up, the housing minister stressed the need to continue developing and upgrading the network of roads, corridors, squares, and entrances throughout Sheikh Zayed City while improving the quality of paving and sidewalk works. This will support the efficiency of traffic movement within the city, enhance the level of services provided to residents, and at the same time preserve the city’s overall appearance and modern urban character.
