Eng. Randa El-Menshawy, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, followed up on the implementation of development, efficiency improvement, and service enhancement works in Obour, Shorouk, and Badr cities. The works included infrastructure and road development and landscaping efforts to preserve the cities’ urban appearance, as well as improving the level of various services.
Eng. Randa El-Menshawy affirmed that development and efficiency improvement works in new cities remain an ongoing priority for the Ministry of Housing as part of efforts to preserve infrastructure quality and enhance the efficiency of services provided to citizens. She stressed the importance of regular field follow-ups of various works, adherence to the highest quality standards during implementation, and expediting maintenance and development plans in accordance with the specified schedules.
The minister of housing added that the ministry is working according to an integrated vision aimed at improving quality of life in new cities by developing utility and road networks, enhancing the urban landscape, expanding green spaces, and improving public services, alongside intensifying campaigns to remove encroachments and violations. These efforts contribute to providing an organized and sustainable urban environment that meets citizens’ needs and keeps pace with the growth and development rates witnessed by these cities.
In this context, the minister of housing received a report outlining the results of field tours conducted by officials of the Obour, Shorouk, and Badr city authorities. In Obour City, Eng. Tamer Gaber, head of the Obour City Development Authority, and authority officials inspected a number of areas in the Eighth District to follow up on road and sidewalk development and efficiency improvement works, landscaping, enhancement of the public lighting network, and infrastructure works, while emphasizing the need to complete the works quickly in accordance with the specified schedules.
The minister of housing also followed up on the implementation of the integrated urban market in the Mostakbal Housing area in Obour City. The market is being established on an area of 1,800 square meters and includes around 52 equipped stalls designed to accommodate various commercial activities, contributing to eliminating the phenomenon of street vendors and reducing random and disorderly appearances.
In Badr City, the report highlighted field tours conducted by Eng. El-Sayed Amin, head of the Badr City Development Authority, and authority officials to follow up on road development and efficiency improvement, landscaping, agricultural works, and cleaning activities in several areas.
These included the Fifth District, as well as asphalt paving works in the Sixth District on the two streets separating the first and third neighborhoods and the third and fifth neighborhoods. The works also included landscaping in the areas around the entrance to Dar Misr and the Distinguished District, cleaning works in Al-Rayhan District, and the development and maintenance of green spaces along the main axes and city entrances, starting from the city entrance on Al-Rubiki Road to the entrance of the Distinguished District (2), in addition to the Zahret Al-Assema area.
In the utilities sector in Badr City, the Minister of Housing followed up on the implementation of a project to rehabilitate elevated water tanks with capacities of 3,000 cubic meters and 1,000 cubic meters. The works include rehabilitating the tank structures, developing the surrounding walls and auxiliary buildings, and installing two pumps for each tank, contributing to improving the efficiency of the drinking water system and enhancing water pressure in the First, Second, and Third Districts.
As part of efforts to maintain discipline and the urban appearance of Badr City, the report addressed the results of a campaign to remove encroachments targeting the First District–Fifth Neighborhood and the Third District–Third Neighborhood, in addition to extensive campaigns conducted in coordination between the authority’s relevant departments and the Construction Police. The campaigns targeted the First, Second, and Third Districts in the First Neighborhood, as well as the Fifth District in the Nargis area.
In Shorouk City, the Minister of Housing followed up on the results of field tours conducted by Eng. Mohamed Zakaria, Head of the Shorouk City Development Authority, and authority officials to monitor the development of the drinking water system. The tours included inspecting the city’s water lifting stations and reviewing the quantities of water supplied from the stations in 10th of Ramadan City.
They also included inspecting the 30,000-cubic-meter-capacity water tank pumping station serving the western area of the city and the pumping station serving the eastern area, as well as following up on the installation of the remaining section of the 1,000-mm-diameter water pipeline inside a 30,000-cubic-meter-capacity tank, in preparation for operating the Shorouk–Obour pumping station. This will support increasing the city’s water allocation, diversifying water supply sources, and enhancing service stability.
In the wastewater sector in Shorouk City, the report indicated that work is continuing on the second phase of a project to improve, replace, and renew the discharge pipelines of lifting stations. The project includes constructing a new 500-mm-diameter discharge pipeline extending from Lifting Station No. (1) to Lifting Station No. (3).
As part of efforts to preserve the city’s urban appearance, the Shorouk City Development Authority carried out a large-scale campaign in coordination with the relevant authorities. The campaigns resulted in the seizure of seven “tuk-tuk” vehicles used for scavenging waste, the removal of 10 encroachment cases, and the full reopening of passageways, with the necessary legal measures taken.
The report also indicated that cleaning activities had been intensified in the eastern and western sectors of Shorouk City, the Second District West, the Cooperative Housing and Cooperative Union areas, Mostakbal Housing, Family Housing, and the apartment areas from the First through the Ninth districts. In addition, the authority followed up on the development of the central median along the western road, which includes establishing an integrated sports walkway, improving pergolas, and developing sidewalks.
