Housing Minister Explores Enhanced Cooperation in Urban Development Projects with the Director General of the Libyan Development and Reconstruction Fund

Engineer Randa El Menshawy, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, met with Engineer Belqasem Khalifa Haftar, Director General of the Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund, and his accompanying delegation to discuss opportunities for expanding and strengthening bilateral cooperation in urban development and infrastructure projects.

At the outset of the meeting, the minister welcomed the Libyan delegation, underscoring the strong historical and fraternal ties between Egypt and Libya. She also reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Libya across multiple sectors, particularly in development and reconstruction initiatives.

Engineer Randa El Menshawy expressed the ministry’s full readiness to reinforce collaboration with the Libyan side in various development sectors and to support Libya’s reconstruction efforts through sharing Egyptian expertise in urban planning, urban development, and infrastructure in a way that helps achieve sustainable development for the Libyan people.

She further emphasized Egypt’s interest in transferring its successful experience in establishing new cities and implementing major national projects, while also leveraging the extensive expertise and capabilities of Egyptian companies in carrying out housing, utilities, roads, and a wide range of service projects.

The minister noted that Egypt’s urban development sector has achieved remarkable progress in recent years through the execution of numerous new cities and large-scale national projects. She added that Egyptian companies today possess advanced technical expertise and strong implementation capabilities that enable them to effectively contribute to development and service projects across Libya.

Meanwhile, Engineer Belqasem Khalifa Haftar expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome and extended his gratitude to the Egyptian leadership, government, and people for their ongoing support for Libya. He affirmed that Egypt has played a significant role in backing reconstruction and development efforts throughout Libya.

The Director General of the Libyan Development and Reconstruction Fund stated that Egyptian companies have proven highly efficient in implementing a variety of projects in Libya, particularly in the sectors of roads, infrastructure, and housing. He also pointed to plans to expand cooperation and increase contracts with Egyptian companies during the upcoming period, especially in public housing and integrated development projects.

At the end of the meeting, both sides agreed to maintain ongoing coordination and cooperation on various shared files in a way that supports urban development efforts in Libya, strengthens the role of Egyptian companies in reconstruction and development projects, and makes use of Egyptian expertise in urban planning, city development, new reconstruction projects, and the modernization of existing cities.
