Engineer Randa El-Menshawy, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, announced that the Cabinet has approved a draft decision to extend the application period for citizens covered by the provisions of Law No. 164 of 2025 concerning certain regulations related to rental laws and the reorganization of the relationship between landlords and tenants who wish to obtain alternative residential and non-residential units. The extension will last for an additional three months, ending on October 12, 2026.

Engineer Randa El-Menshawy added that citizens may apply for alternative residential or non-residential units either through the Egypt Digital Platform via the website www.digital.gov.eg or through 500 computerized post offices distributed across all governorates, provided they have an activated account on the Egypt Digital Platform.

For her part, Mai Abdel Hamid, CEO of the Social Housing and Mortgage Finance Fund, stated that the number of applications submitted through both the Egypt Digital Platform and computerized post offices has reached approximately 102,000 applications so far, including 99,800 applications for residential units and 1,790 applications for non-residential units.

The CEO of the Social Housing and Mortgage Finance Fund emphasized that the decision aims to provide citizens with an additional opportunity to submit applications for the allocation of available residential and non-residential units offered by state entities. These units are intended for tenants, or those to whom tenancy contracts have been legally extended, who are covered by the provisions of Law No. 164 of 2025.

She also noted that applying for an alternative residential or non-residential unit is a simple and streamlined process. Mai Abdel Hamid further explained that the initial application stage does not require citizens to upload any supporting documents. Income documents and documents verifying the tenancy relationship will only be requested during a later stage, which is the document submission and verification phase.
