Minya, Egypt – Housing Minister Sherif El-Sherbiny and Minya Governor Emad Kadwany recently convened in New Minya City to assess the ongoing development projects in the cities of New Minya and New Malawy. The meeting also included a review of the master plan for the newly proposed Beni Mazar City, including land-use strategies.
The session was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Housing and the New Urban Communities Authority, who discussed maximizing the use of unutilized land and identifying new investment opportunities in the region. One of the key points raised by the Minister was the necessity of transitioning to prepaid water meters to improve resource management.
Minister El-Sherbiny highlighted that the investment in New Minya since 2014 has doubled compared to what was spent between the city’s founding in 1986 and 2014. This significant increase in investment aims to elevate urbanization rates in Upper Egypt, boost economic development, and generate new job opportunities.
The Minister also outlined the geographical advantages of New Minya, located on the eastern bank of the Nile with an elevated position offering panoramic views of the river, making it an attractive destination for both investors and residents. The city’s strategic location is further enhanced by its connection to five major road axes, ensuring ease of access.
Ahmed Mostafa, Head of the New Minya City Authority, provided a detailed report on the projects underway. Among these are the construction of 27,688 residential units as part of national initiatives like “Housing for All Egyptians,” as well as other housing schemes and service infrastructure projects.
In parallel, development work is also progressing in New Malawy City, with a range of residential and service projects being implemented.
These efforts are part of the Ministry of Housing’s broader strategy to accelerate development in Upper Egypt and foster a favorable investment environment in newly established cities.
