The Ministry of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities has begun monitoring the implementation of the “West Sohag Transformer Substation” project in New Sohag City as part of a plan to support electricity networks and enhance the readiness of new cities to accommodate urban and investment expansion.
Eng. Randa El-Menshawy, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, emphasized that infrastructure projects, particularly those aimed at strengthening electricity networks, are a key component of sustainable urban development. She stressed the need to implement these projects in line with growth rates to meet the needs of residents and future projects.
The minister explained that the ministry is working to enhance the readiness of new cities by providing an integrated system of utilities and services, contributing to the creation of an attractive urban environment for investment, while ensuring adherence to established timelines, increasing implementation rates, and continuously monitoring ongoing works.
In this context, the minister received a report on the implementation status of the “West Sohag Transformer Substation” project, with a voltage of 22/22/220 kV and a contractual value of approximately EGP 1.699 billion.
Eng. Ayman Rashad, Head of the New Sohag City Development Authority, explained that the Authority continues to conduct field inspections of the project. The works include monitoring excavation, construction, and progress rates at the substation, in addition to implementing connection lines to the national electricity grid in Sohag City.
He noted that the executive procedures for the project’s civil works have been completed, while a number of electrical equipment items have also been approved, and actual implementation works have begun at the site.
The “West Sohag Transformer Substation” project is part of the New Sohag City Development Authority’s plan to develop and improve the efficiency of utility networks in line with the city’s growing needs and to support its capacity to accommodate new projects.
The project also aims to provide a more efficient and secure electricity infrastructure, thereby enhancing the sustainability of urban and investment development and expansion within the city.
